Liquid hand soap bottle (does not have to be antibacterial)
Instant hand sanitizer gel bottle
Sink with cold and warm running water
Clean paper towels
Today we are going to see a special demonstration of handwashing. We need two volunteers to help with this handwashing
demonstration. In this bottle there are glow-in-the-dark fake germs. Rub them all over your hands.
Instructions:
Version 1:
1. Spread the recommended quantity of Glogerm® onto the girls’ hands.
2. Close the curtains turn off the lights and turn on the black light to show the fake germs on the girl’s hands.
3. Turn the lights back on and ask the two girls to wash their hands.
4. Close the curtains, turn off the lights, turn on the black light to show the fake germs that remain on the girls hands. This activity
helps to illustrate that while we are washing our hands, we need to make sure that we take the time to do it right.
Version 2:
1. Alternatively, the group can be split in two. Half of the girls can spread the recommended quantity of Glogerm® onto their hands.
The other half can leave their hands bare.
2. The half of the group that has the Glogerm® on their hands can shake hands with the bare handed girls.
3. Close the curtains, turn off the lights and turn on the black light to show how the fake germs on the girl’s hands spread with
shaking hands. This activity helps to illustrate how easily germs can spread from girl to girl.
4. Turn the lights back on and ask the two girls to wash their hands.

helps to illustrate that while we are washing our hands we need to make sure that we take the time to do it right.
