features of V-8 crankshaft rigidity. Use of six counterweights<br />

gives each crankshaft cheek its own counterweight<br />

which counterbalances each crankpin and connecting<br />

rod at the point of disturbance. This contributes<br />

to smoothness and balance.<br />

Use of a light flywheel in the LaSalle V-8 engine<br />

eliminates any development of vibration at high speeds.<br />

A new Syncro-Flex Flywheel has been developed by<br />

<strong>Cadillac</strong> engineers for all <strong>Cadillac</strong> V-8's. At certain<br />

critical speeds crankshafts in all engines tend to bend<br />

slightly upward and downward at the ends causing the<br />

flywheel to run with a wobbling motion creating vibra-<br />

tions. These vibrations are practically eliminated by<br />

the short, rigid V-8 crankshaft and would go unnoticed<br />

by an owner after driving a straight eight powered<br />
