female and bull at the 2009 <strong>Keystone</strong> International<br />
Livestock Exposition (KILE) in Harrisburg, Pa., Oct. 2.<br />
Chan Phillips, Mays Lick, Ky., judged the 179-head show and<br />
said he was impressed with the depth<br />
of quality in each class.<br />
<strong>Purple</strong> CMCC Nastia 9U was<br />
slapped overall champion female<br />
after winning the junior yearling<br />
female division. Nastia, a Feb.<br />
2008 daughter of LaGrand Reload<br />
80P ET, was bred by <strong>Purple</strong> <strong>Reign</strong><br />
Judge Chan Phillips<br />
<strong>Cattle</strong> <strong>Co</strong>. and is owned by Dennis<br />
Hartman, Jerseyville, Ill. Phillips<br />
followed with the champion intermediate female as reserve<br />
overall. Showtime Karlie 867 is a May 2008 daughter of<br />
Ramsey’s Firewall and was shown by Hunter Hamilton,<br />
Heltonville, Ind. Karlie was bred by Showtime <strong>Cattle</strong> <strong>Co</strong>.,<br />
Greenfield, Ind.<br />
A <strong>Purple</strong> <strong>Reign</strong>-bred bull won the bull show as well.<br />
<strong>Purple</strong> MB Womanizer 14U ET, is a March 2008 son of<br />
CH Enuff Prophet 2913. Womanizer is co-owned by <strong>Purple</strong><br />
<strong>Reign</strong> and Hansmeier & Son Inc., Bristol, S.D. Reserve<br />
champion overall bull was SPF 262S Wildcat Willie 01W.<br />
Wildcat Willie, bred-and-owned by Spring Pond Farm II,<br />
Branchport, N.Y., was the champion junior bull calf and is<br />
sired by KJ 068J Manhattan 262S.<br />
In the cow-calf show, STAR 19R Carlene 137T ET was<br />
chosen champion. She is by SB 122L Git-R-Done 19R ET<br />
and showed with a March heifer calf at side. The pair was<br />
bred by Star Lake <strong>Cattle</strong> Ranch, Skiatook, Okla., and is<br />
co-owned with Andre Howe, Wagontown, Pa. NS Lady R<br />
646 was named reserve champion cow, with a February<br />
bull calf at side. Lady, by Blair-Athol 20 The Rock ET<br />
19M, was bred by Stockdale Hereford Farm, Dayton, Pa.,<br />

<strong>Keystone</strong> Sale Averages $2,166<br />
A good-sized crowd was on hand for the <strong>Keystone</strong> National Hereford Sale Oct. 1,<br />
2009. This sale is held in conjunction with the <strong>Keystone</strong> National Hereford Show in<br />
Harrisburg, Pa.<br />
When Kevin Wendt silenced the gavel, six heifers had gathered $13,000 to average<br />
$2,166 and six embryos had averaged $363.<br />
Highlighting the auction was a donated embryo lot from Deana Jak Farms Inc., New<br />
Enterprise, Pa. This lot included three embryos from the Hereford Youth Foundation<br />
of America (HYFA) heifer STAR 29F Bethany 2T ET and sire STAR NK Platinum 508T<br />
ET. On the first sale of this lot, the embryos gathered $2,400. Buyers included Four<br />
L Hereford Farm, Atwood, Tenn.; Cassie Lyons, Hookstown, Pa.; TYME <strong>Cattle</strong> <strong>Co</strong>., W.<br />
Burlington, N.Y.; Lowderman <strong>Cattle</strong> <strong>Co</strong>., Macomb, Ill.; Grass Pond Farm, Greendell, N.J.;<br />
C&L Hereford Ranch, Ixonia, Wis.; Dunn Polled Herefords, <strong>Co</strong>chranton, Pa.; Hausner<br />
<strong>Cattle</strong> <strong>Co</strong>., Thomasville, Pa.; Far Away Farm, Glenmoore, Pa.; Four Winds Farm, Berlin,<br />
<strong>Co</strong>nn.; Shepherds View Farm, Bridgeville Del.; and Paul Slayton, Bedford, Pa. The lot<br />
was donated back and this time sold for $975 to Four Winds Farm. The proceeds of this<br />
lot were split between the Pennsylvania Junior Hereford Projects and HYFA.<br />
Topping the sale at $3,900 was Lot 9, <strong>Purple</strong> Tonic’s <strong>Co</strong>tton 16V, a March 2, 2009,<br />
heifer sired by <strong>Purple</strong> Tonic 10M and consigned by <strong>Purple</strong> <strong>Reign</strong> <strong>Cattle</strong> <strong>Co</strong>., Toulon, Ill.<br />
Taylor Dieball, Little River, Kan., entered the Hereford business with this fine female.<br />
Helms Polled Herefords, New Enterprise, Pa., consigned HPH Western Gal 755 9003,<br />
a March 7, 2009, heifer sired by UPS Domino 3027. Whispering Wind Farm, Center<br />
<strong>Co</strong>nway, N.H., purchased this lot at $2,600.<br />
Rounding out the high sellers at $2,400 was Lot 14 from Four L Hereford Farm,<br />
Atwood, Tenn. Four L 7055 Haley 9071W ET, an April 11, 2009, heifer by BR DM CSF<br />
