Vanguard Instrument’s Model CT-3500 is a second generation, stand-alone, digital,
microprocessor-controlled, circuit-breaker timer. It measures elapsed time from the
instant a breaker coil is energized to the instant of opening or closing of a circuitbreaker’s
dry contacts. The CT-3500 not only times the breaker’s contact response
time, but it can also time relays or other switching function that use an initiating-trigger
voltage (24-300 Volts dc or ac). The timer-triggering voltage starts three independent
electronics timers, each of which is individually stopped by its respective drycontact
closing or opening. The CT-3500 fully analyzes the timing of breaker contact
operations: OPEN, CLOSE, OPEN-to-CLOSE, and CLOSE-to-OPEN. Timing results, in
milliseconds and cycles, display on a 4-line by 20-character backlit LCD. A built-in
2.5-inch-wide thermal printer provides a hard copy of test report. A real-time clock
allows test results to be dated and time stamped for record keeping.
Contact Timing Inputs
The CT-3500 features three dry-contact, timer-channel monitoring. The dry-contact
channel power supply is fuse protected. All inputs are shunted to ground until the
instant of test. Inputs are Zener-protected against static discharge. A contact self-test
cable-mode lets users test cables or connections to the breaker when required.
User Interface
A built-in thermal printer prints test reports on 2.5-inch-wide thermal paper. An
alphanumeric keypad lets users enter test information and control functions. Timing
results, in milliseconds and cycles, display on a 4-line by 20-character backlit LCD.
Timing Shot Storage
Up to 128 timing records can be stored in the CT-3500 FLASH EEPROM. The
user can recall stored test reports to be printed or transferred to an IBM-compatible
PC. An RS-232C serial-interface port also provides for computer interface
and diagnostic test. A Windows based software package (provided with each
unit) allows the user to down load test records to a PC. The user can then
review, print or export test records.
