CANAJOHARIE — It was
only their second game in
Western Athletic Conference
North Division play, but the second
half of Wednesday’s contest
against Canajoharie carried an
air of desperation for the Fort
Plain Lady Hilltoppers.
Behind by double figures
early in the first half and needing
a victory to avoid digging
themselves too much of a hole
in the standings, Fort Plain
roared back for a 50-41 victory.
Abby Boyer led the comeback,
as the Lady Hilltoppers
senior forward compiled 26
points and 17 rebounds — and
got to enjoy one big sigh of
relief following the game.
“If we lost this one, we’d be
in tough shape for winning the
league,” said Boyer. “This is a
good win and gets our confidence
back up.”
Fort Plain (2-2, 1-1) has a big
game looming Friday with
Galway and could not afford
an 0-2 start in league play —
yet it was Canajoharie (3-2, 2-
1) that came out ready to play.

chomping at the bit to finally get on the
court — though probably not too hard,
considering it was an issue with his teeth
that kept him out in the first place.
Wednesday night, in his first game coming
back from having his two top front
teeth driven into his gums as the result of
a collision in an Exceptional Seniors soccer
game, Sala came off the bench and
gave the Cougars a needed spark against
Fort Plain, hitting four 3-pointers on his
way to a game-high 20 points that led
Canajoharie to a 64-61 win on another
wild night in the nip-and-tuck North
