2012 DOW Gives Community Grants Program
DOW established a Community Grants Program in 2001 to help fund local service projects
in the communities where our employees or retirees have a presence. Since the program
was launched, DOW has contributed over $530,000 to local organizations supporting
short-term projects that create visible results.
Grants up to a maximum of $5,000 are provided for material resources and supplies that are
integral to initiatives that contribute to community success and local quality of life through
sustainable development, community interaction, relationship building, or by enhancing the natural
or built environment. For example, funding has been awarded for protective coveralls for volunteer
firefighters, a palliative care community outreach program, computer equipment for a variety of
youth and family programs, playground equipment at an elementary school campus, renovations
at a non-profit facility, and supplies and equipment for arts, recreation and athletic programs.

Who can apply for funding?
To qualify for 2012 DOW Gives Community
Grants Program, organizations must:
• have a registered charitable number, and/or
• be a municipal or government agency, and/or
• other type of non-profit organization, and/or
• operate within a 50 km radius of the Prentiss site
DOW strives to ensure the DOW Gives
Community Grants Program is unbiased,
inclusive and fair.
Therefore, grants are not provided to:
• individuals
• political candidates
• religious organizations, however, we will
consider organizations with religious
affiliations that are seeking funding for
an non-denominational initiative that
is open to the community-at-large
• funding cannot be used for operating
expenses including salaries, travel costs,
fees for workshops or foundations
• we do not fund “seed” money or start-up fees
How many grants are available
within DOW Gives Community
Grants Program?
Prentiss’ 2012 DOW Gives Community Grants
Program provides $30,000 in total to support
within a 50 kilometre radius of our site. The
number of grants we award will depend on the
individual and collective value of the applications
and whether they meet the selection criteria.
Organizations can request funding up to a
maximum of $5,000; however, proposals
requiring less than $5,000 are encouraged.
Only one application per organization may
be submitted and incomplete applications
will be disqualified.
What is the selection process?
A selection committee comprised of
representatives from the community, DOW’s
Community Advisory Panel and DOW employees
will review all proposals and determine how
effectively the project or initiative:
• meets a specific community need or solves
a problem, enhances the community or assists
its residents
• benefits a number of people and has
a measurable community impact
• aligns with the organization’s philosophy
and activities
• is guided by goals, objectives and results
that are clearly defined
• is short-term, with high visibility and provides
clearly defined recognition opportunities
for DOW
• requires a realistic, justifiable funding level to
complete the entire project or a phase of it,
and does not fund operational expenses such
as salary or travel costs
We will notify our successful 2012 DOW Gives
Community Grant recipients of their award by
September 2012.

Please complete our 2012 DOW Gives
Community Grants Application form. Applicants
who do not use the attached DOW form will be
disqualified from the selection Process. Please
do not send generic proposals. Submit it along
with any other relevant documentation,
by June 29, 2012 to:
