This has been an attractive presupposition to make and certainly corroborated to some extent by the ‘motion’ of ideas and complementarities that have shaped the development of Sino-Arab relations over the past two decades: the ‘Rise of China’ has generated a great deal of excitement among the Arab elite and intellectuals; the Eastern giant’s potential ‘balancing’ role to that of the United States, as well as its unique modernization model have nurtured positive perceptions about the country and its authoritarian political culture.
