D E D I C A T I O N In return for the able leadership that he has always given us, for the wise counsel that he has never failed to grant us, for the unfailing devotion that he has ever shown to the cause of the school, we dedicate this, THE 1940 CRlSS CROSS, to our headmaster, Mr. Pell.
F O R E W O R D When first starting out upon this, the 1940 Criss Cross, we the editors fully realized the task that confronted us. Our goal was to create a year book which, in a style worthy of its predecessors, presented a true chronicle of the year 1939-'40 at St. Andrew's. Our earnest hope is that we have succeeded in achieving this end. To those patrons, friends, and students whose as- sistance has made this edition possible, we extend our most sincere appreciation of their efforts. Thus we present the 1940 Criss Cross. We present it to the graduating class as a lasting reminder of their life here; to all students, past and future, as an accurate record of this year's school activities; lastly we present it to the public as a true representation of St. Andrew's School life. May its pages reflect the real spirit of St. Andrew's.
