This service is intended as a special service to readers and hopefully to the town as a whole. Anyone who has any suggestions to improve safety, operations of , government or ap- ~ pearance in Southington - L or just comments in general - is invited to send them to The Suggestion Box, C-O The Southington NEWS, P .O. Box 71, Southington, Conn. 06489. Communications to The Suggeston Box will be published weekly on this page. Those received through the Friday preceding publication date will be used that week - those received after Friday will be held for publication in the following week's paper. Items received this week included the following: "It's time to start those needed Charter revisions. The most obvious one of all is - a minimum of two candidates for every vacancy. The present policy of having four candidates for three vacancies on the Board of Education and the Town Council is ridiculous. It is impossible to clear out the incumbents, if that is the desire of the voters, under the present system. "Also, the number of signatures of qualified voters needed on a petition by a person to get his or her name on the ballot to run independently for an office should be published in The NEWS weekly. Southington IS growing rapidly and many party primaries will be held. If you want your family to have a voice in all these functions then the wife should be affiliated with a different party than her husband." , "Why doesn't Southington take a tip from neIghboring Meriden? Traffic signals in the downtown area there go on 'blinker' during the early morning hours - after 2 a.m., anyway. "Instead of bringing everyone in at the same time, why can't people due to appear in Circuit Court be given a scheduled appearance time during the day. rather than having to wait around for a long time? Also, why are cases involving lawyers called up flrBt? Other people have to lose time from work while they are waiting around." "Now that all ilie par~ lots have been com· pleted downtown, I suggest they allow parking on one side of Center St. only, to relieve congestion during rush hours and when it snows. The same suggestion applles to West Main St. through Plantsville Center." "The State did a great job of plowing and clearing the main traffic arteries ~ough town, such as Route 10. Town streets like Marion Ave., Berlin Ave. and West Center St., which connect these main arteries, should receive the same kind of treatment \?y the town." Your Fair Share Once again, the annual fund campaign of the Southington Community Chest is falling short of its goal. Fund Director Gerald Gingras reported in last week's NEWS that the drive stands at approximately $15,000 short of its quota of $95,334. Mr. Gingras urges all those who have not sent in their contributions to do so immediately, or as soon as oo.c;sible. We join with him in this appeal.
