its form or nature, liable to destroy, deface or<br />

otherwise damage the contents of the mail bag<br />

or harm the person of any one engaged in the<br />

postal service and not above weight provided<br />

by law. Rate, one cent per ounce or fraction<br />

thereof. Limit of weight four pounds. Full<br />

prepayment compulsory.<br />

RATES OF POSTAGE TO CANADA.<br />

(The dominion of Canada embraces all British<br />

North American Provinces except Newfoundland.)<br />

Letters and Postal Cards—Same rate and<br />

conditions of prepayment as for domestic letters<br />

and postal cards.<br />

Other Matters—Articles of every kind or<br />

nature which are admitted to the domestic<br />

mails of either country, will be admitted under<br />

the same conditions to the mails exchanged<br />

between the two countries, except that articles<br />

other than letters in their usual and ordinary<br />

forms are excluded from the mails, unless<br />

they are so wrapped or enclosed as to permit<br />

their contents to be easily examined by postmasters<br />

or custom officers; and except, also,<br />

the following articles, the transmission of<br />

which is absolutely prohibited under any circumstances,<br />

viz: Sealed packages, which,<br />

from their form and general appearance, evidently<br />

are not letters, and are not wrapped or<br />

inclosed as above required; publications which<br />

violate the copyright laws of the country of<br />

destination; packets (except single volumes of<br />

printed books and packages of second class<br />

matter) which exceeds four pounds, six ounces<br />

in weight; poisons, explosives or live or dead<br />

(not dried) animals, insects or reptiles, confections,<br />

inflammable material, fatty substances<br />

or those which easily liquefy; paste,<br />

fruits and vegetables which quickly decompose;<br />

substances which exhale a bad odor; lottery<br />

tickets or circulars and newspapers containing<br />

advertisements of lotteries; Police Gazettes:<br />

all obscene or immoral articles, and other<br />

articles which may destroy or damage the<br />

mails or persons handling them. All articles<br />

are required to be fully prepaid with postage<br />

stamps at the same rate of postage applicable<br />

to similar articles in the domestic mails of the<br />

country of origin, and are required to be delivered<br />

free to addresses of destination, except<br />

letters in their usual or ordinary form prepaid<br />

two cents which must be forwarded to the<br />

proper U. S. exchange postoffice where they<br />

will be stamped 4 T" and rated with deficient<br />

postage.<br />

RATES OF POSTAGE TO MEXICO.<br />

Letters, newspapers and printed matter are<br />

now carried between the United States and<br />

Mexico at the same rates as in the United<br />

States. Samples are 1 cent for 2 ounces;<br />

limit of weight, S% ounces. Merchandise,<br />

other than samples, may only be sent by parcels<br />

post. No sealed packages other than letters<br />

in their usual and ordinary form, may be<br />

sent by mail to Mexico, nor any package over<br />

four pounds, six ounces in weight.<br />

RATES OF POSTAGE TO POSTAL UNION<br />

COUNTRIES.<br />

Letters—Five cents per half ounce or fraction<br />

thereof (fifteen grams being the postal<br />

equivalent of half an ounce). Postal cards,<br />

single, two cents each; with paid reply, four<br />

cents each. Newspapers and other printed<br />

matter, two ounces, one cent; commercial papers<br />

in packets, not in excess of ten ounces,<br />

five cents; in excess of ten ounces, one cent for<br />

each two ounces or fratcion thereof. Samples<br />

of merchandise, two cents for each four ounces<br />

or fraction thereof.<br />

Registered Matter—The fee on registered<br />

matter, domestic and foreign, is eight cents<br />

for each letter or parcel, to be affixed in stamps<br />

in addition to the postage. Full prepayment<br />

of fee and postage is required.<br />

MONEY ORDERS.<br />

Domestic Rates—For orders for sums not<br />

exceeding $2.50, 3 cents; over $2.50 and not<br />

exceeding $5, 5 cents; over $5 and not exceeding<br />

$10, 8 cents; over $10 and not exceeding<br />

$20, 10 cents; over $20 and not exceeding $30,<br />

12 cents; over $30 and not exceeding $40, 15<br />

cents; over $40 and not exceeding $50, 18<br />

cents; over $50 and not exceeding $60, 20<br />

cents; over $60 and not exceeding $75, 25<br />

cents; over $75 and not exceeding $100, 30<br />

cents.<br />
