A Pagan
Anthology
A BOOK OF POEMS
By the Following Authors:
A Pagan Anthology
"A Pagan Anthology," composed
of poems by contributors to "The Pagan
Magazine," is a volume for the
connoisseur in verse Hbre.
The passionate breath of the amorosa,
the hilarity of the bacchanalian,
bitter bursts from long-enslaved
plebians, and mystical visions of
weird Oriental scenes, commingle in
strange melodies of poetry.
Gruesome, indeed, are the word-pictures
of war scenes. One can fancy
he actually sees "Burgundy's soil, saturated
with bubbling gore, and craving
more"! "To Whom" by Max Endicott,
associate editor of "The Pagan,"
is a masterpiece that should
burn into the very soul of the craven
militarists. The "human owl" who occasioned
"Study in Reversion" by Joseph
Kling, managing editor of "The
Pagan," should shrink from sight in
shame after so scorching an expose of
his own character, so repulsive a description
of his "hoots and grunts and
screeches for slaughter and bloodshed."
The authors put no ban on red
blood, warm flesh
and human desires.
Rather, they deify love and classify
sex longings in the category of things
natural and permissible. To the jaundiced
eye of Anthony Comstodc many
parts of the "Anthology" would appear
fertile literary soil from which
libidinous and wicked weeds are sure
to appear. But to the latitudinarian
who sees beauty in the human form
as well as in bright birds and golden
flowers, these poems will seem but the
verities of life and love translated into
vivid vermilion verse.
