AS ANUSHER SEES PROM
Well, — I, as an usher, am quite
up in the air concerning this thirtyfifth,
let us say, Junior Promenade,
because now, on the night of the
long-awaited event,Ihave
a very
unpleasant sinking sensation right
under my belt — it's funnyhow things
always get me there — . This sensation
has come upon me,Iam sure,
because so many Juniors and Seniors
are rushing madly about, yelling
various disturbing phrases about
evening clothes, men, and engraved
invitations. So, when asked just
whatIhoped for, or expected from,
Friday
evening,Iexploded quite
tearfully (in part) with the following
jumble.

Ihope it'll be a warm night,
with a moon, of course — 'butIexpect
we'll have rain — Ihope no one
catches the measles, (I'll bet you
thoughtIwas going to say dickens)
— tmtIexpect to hear pretty soon
that so-and-so's escort has acquired
big red spots and will not arrive for
the dance.Ihave, as have others,
a long train on my dress andIhope
—
all can hold them up successfully
butIexpect to hear loud rips at the
most embarrassing, — moments, say
when sortie (not the rips) are conversing
with President Barbour.
From whatIhave heard about the
plans for the PromIexpect it will
be a big success — whatIhope is that
the big runs into colossal, and other
Durante adjectives — The decorations,
you ask?
AllIcan see in my
mind are the high white walls of the
Chapel room — Ihope there will be
soft-colored spotlights — 'butIexpect
to find glaring lights and five or six
palms — | of.bobbing and finger waving. Applications taken evenings for I
'ike the Sahara desert, you permanent waves only. Please make all applicationsin advance.

hope and expect to 'be London-Embassyish
(I have my own ideas on
that point), but by the timeIget
a chance to sort of glide over the
floorIexpect my feet will feel like
languishing in bed — you can imagine
what I hope! — The Promenade
propter has always been thought of
as an ordeal, soIhear, and from
the descriptions I gather that
couples find it difficult to march in
eights and tens — and can you blame
them, for after all, a couple is a
couple — Be that as it may,IhopeI
don't have to take any serious part
in it, — a quitter, huh? — butIexpectIshall
do so, — and when put
to the testIhope everyone will bear
up under the strain — Iexpect some
will not! But Prom would be too
stiff (careful now) if some did not
fall by the wayside — Ihope the
blind dates, — if there are any, and
there usually are, — will not fall in
the disappointing category. ButI
expect some of them will — as experience
has taught me in the past — ".
As for the Prom committee, — all
swell girls, andIhope they aren't
too nervous, — and that the fact that
they are wearing white ribbons does
not make them feel like morning, —
and sunrise — -I expect they will be
nervous, and worried — you know
how womenare, — butIdon't think
they'll act as though they were
greeting a new day, — you know,
somewhat dazed — In fact,Iexpect
that every single person will be on
his or her toes — (but let's hope not
on each other's.
