of names. Wherever possible, these names are taken from, or are modified versions of, a<br />
formerly established nomenclature. The deposits are given lithological qualifiers, for example<br />
Etwall Sand and Gravel. To avoid cordhion, the surfaces of river terrace deposits are named<br />
differently, as in Etwall Terrace. Conversely, in previous works on the deposits of the local rivers<br />
(e.g. Pocock, 1929; Swinnerton, 1937; Clayton, 1953; Posnansky, 1960; Rice, 1968), a name<br />
