2.2.2 Particulate Matter (PM 10 )
Blackpool Borough Council does not undertake monitoring of PM 10 .
2.2.3 Sulphur Dioxide (SO 2 )
Blackpool Borough Council does not undertake monitoring of sulphur dioxide.
2.2.4 Benzene
Blackpool Borough Council does not undertake monitoring of benzene
2.2.5 Particulate Matter (PM 2.5 )
The UK Government and the Devolved Administrations have set national air quality
objectives for particulate matter smaller than 2.5 µm diameter (PM 2.5 ). These objectives have
not been incorporated into LAQM Regulations, and authorities have no statutory obligation to
review and assess air quality against them. Data is presented here solely for information.
The AURN site at Blackpool Marton began monitoring PM 2.5 on 28 th January 2009 using a
TEOM FDMS.
Data capture in 2012 was poor at 68%. However the annual mean concentrations was well
below the annual air quality objective (25 µg/m 3 ).
2.2.6 Ozone
Ozone is a trans-boundary pollutant; the sources of ozone are frequently spatially distant
from the measured site of the concentrations. This pollutant is not a prescribed air quality
objective for LAQM and therefore, results are provided for information only.
Data capture for 2012 was 99% and the maximum of 8-hour running means exceeded
100µg/m³ on 61 occasions during the year. The Air Quality Strategy objective permits 10
exceedences per year and therefore the objective was not met.
