The first Saturday dance of <strong>2013</strong> was the dcba valentine<br />
dance. red was the predominate fashion color. There were<br />
plenty of shades in evidence as everyone enjoyed the great<br />
music and had a wonderful time.

DCBA President’s Letter<br />
Hi Everyone,<br />
By the time you read this, we will only be three weeks away from spring! Spring<br />
brings out the beginning of dance season and all the three day events that come<br />
with it. From (early, early spring) River <strong>City</strong> Swing Fling in Evansville on <strong>March</strong><br />
1 st and 2 nd , to Boogie In The Burgh in Pittsburgh from <strong>March</strong> 21 st to <strong>March</strong> 24 th ,<br />
to Smoky Mountain Boogie in Pigeon Forge, Tn. from <strong>March</strong> 21 st to <strong>March</strong> 23 rd ,<br />
Spring kicks off our dance season with a bang. Then follow that with the biggest<br />
little party in the south, Spring Safari in North Myrtle Beach and you have set<br />
the stage for the rest of the year.<br />
We will be kicking off our promotional season for Boogie in the Bluegrass on <strong>March</strong> 1 st . you will get<br />
your first email blast for ticket requests, new flyers will be available at all our dances, plans will start<br />
coming together, and then, before you know it, October will be here and it will be our turn to shine. We<br />
will begin taking volunteer names for the various duties, such as registration, vendors, 50/50, hospitality,<br />
and many other jobs. We will be naming our various committee chairs and they will be seeking you<br />
out. BIB is known for showing DCBA at it’s best and this year will be our best year yet. But, here’s<br />
more… 2014 will be the 10 th Anniversary of BIB! Can you imagine what we’ll have in store for you<br />
then? Get those checkbooks ready!<br />
As the year goes on, we will start putting together another big bash for next year. 2014 will mark the<br />
25 th anniversary of The <strong>Derby</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Bop</strong> <strong>Association</strong>! We will be having a big birthday bash. Dates,<br />
times and place will be announced later in the year. Keep your ears open for details!<br />
In honor of our upcoming anniversary we have brought back Club Shirt Night on the second Tuesday<br />
of every month. For you newbies, you can get a shirt online through our website. You’ll see a link for<br />
“club store” on our home page. Click and go into our store that is run by Embroidery On Demand. You<br />
can find all kinds of styles, plus other items as well. You can have your name embroidered along with<br />
the DCBA logo. Then you can proudly wear your new shirt and receive a free 50/50 ticket when you<br />
purchase your tickets. There will also be other giveaways throughout the year. We make every Tuesday<br />
at Porter’s fun, but, the second Tuesday is going to be fantastic.<br />
Lastly, I would like to thank the Board of Directors, and members present, for nominating me for the<br />
American <strong>Bop</strong> <strong>Association</strong> Hall of Fame. It is a great honor being nominated. Members of our group<br />
that are in the Hall of Fame are: Bill & Gingy Wallace, Brenda Meredith, Herky Meredith, Ron Wallace,<br />
Cal Shaw, & our newest members, Sue & Jackie Kestner. What a group! Just to be considered to<br />
join that club is more thatn enough. Thanks to all!<br />
We’ll have lots of news to share in the coming months. Be sure to read your Monday email to keep up<br />
on the current goings on.<br />

our dancers. It's the new cd from Aaron<br />
Neville, "My True Story". Released on<br />
January 22nd, Vicki heard him sing<br />
"Under The Boardwalk" on The Today<br />
Show and said "You need to check that<br />
out", and I did! Singing the songs from the<br />
era that influenced him, Aaron takes us<br />
back with him to bobby socks and chocolate<br />
malts. "Money Honey", Ruby Baby",<br />
"Little Bitty Pretty One", "Under The Boardwalk", and "Work With<br />
Me Annie", all make you bop in your seat and head to the dance<br />
floor. "Tears On My Pillow", "This Magic Moment", and "Goodnight<br />
My Love" bring back the belly rubbers of old. Add "My True Story",<br />
"Gypsy Woman", "Ting A Ling", and "Be My Baby" and you've got<br />
a nostalgia trip that will all year. Great songs by a true legend. Pick<br />
