Armstrong more recently created the scores for the films <strong>“I</strong>n Time,” “Neds,”<br />

“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” <strong>and</strong> “World Trade Center.”<br />

Beginning his career as an in-house composer with Glasgow’s highly<br />

respected Tron Theatre Company, Armstrong has written works performed by the<br />

Scottish Ensemble, the London Sinfonietta, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Royal Scottish National Orchestra. His other stage work includes the commissions<br />

“The Tempest” <strong>and</strong> “A Broken Heart,” with direc<strong>to</strong>r Michael Boyd at the Royal<br />

Shakespeare Company.<br />

An accomplished pianist, Armstrong signed as an artist <strong>to</strong> Massive Attack’s<br />

label, Melankolic, following their work <strong>to</strong>gether on the album Protection. Armstrong<br />

released two solo albums featuring collaborations with U2, Liz Fraser <strong>and</strong> David<br />

McAlmont. His other solo projects include the album Piano Works, from which he<br />

performed pieces at Carnegie Hall <strong>and</strong> the Sundance Film Festival. In 2008, Memory<br />

Takes My H<strong>and</strong> (EMI Classics) was released, featuring orchestral works performed by<br />

the violinist Clio Gould <strong>and</strong> the BBC Symphony Orchestra.<br />

In 2010, he was awarded an O.B.E for services <strong>to</strong> music.<br />
