the potential to be one of the best front line players in our program. He can
score right or left-handed and as his perimeter game improves he will be a
player we can use in a number of different ways. Luiz has a great attitude and,
if he continues to work hard, the sky is the limit. We are very excited to have him

“I chose the University of Idaho
because is a great place to be
and everyone is really friendly. The
University of Idaho has a beautiful
campus and great academic
programs. I also felt comfortable
with my teammates and all of the
teachers.”
AT ST. FRANCIS XAVIER: Was the 2007-08 Atlantic University Sport Rookie
of the Year… led all first-year players with a 13.6 points per game average…
led all freshman in rebounding (7.8 per game), blocked shots (0.85 per game)
and minutes played (29.6 per game)… named a second team all-star… named
to the AUS all-rookie team… appeared in all 20 regular season games… 7.8
rebounds per game led the team and ranked sixth in AUS… 0.85 blocks per
game led the team and ranked sixth in AUS… shot 49-percent from the floor.
AT MODESTO CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: Spent two years at Modesto
(California) Christian High School… averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds per
game… selected to the All-State team in his senior year.
PERSONAL: Full name is Islam Luiz de Toledo... born July 28, 1987 at Brazil...
son of Antonio and Aporecida Toledo... has one brother, Julio... is a first cousin
of Denver Nuggets power forward ‘Nene’.
What do you like about coach
Verlin and his staff?
“They are a really good coaching
staff and they will turn the program
around. Coach Verlin understands
a lot about the game and he came
from a very good school. Coach
Score and coach Lopes know how
to push the team and make us work
harder and they are always available
to help us. Coach Freeman and
coach Helbling are very important
to the program because they help us
on and off the court and are always
available for us players.”
