AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS
Australia Day Awards for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and
Community Event of the Year are presented at community events held on
Australia Day. Nominations are called in mid September/early October
for the four Wards and will be received up to the last week in October/
first week in November (Check at Council offices or Council’s website for
the closing date). Nomination forms are available from the Council offices
and/or can be downloaded from Council’s website.

Burra: Located in the Mary Warnes Room, Market Square (next to the Burra
Visitors’ Centre). Open Mon-Fri 9.00 am-5.00 pm, Weekends 10.00 am-4.00 pm.

Burra : 2 electric barbecues at the Thomas Pickett Reserve, Burra Creek

Eudunda : 2 free electric barbecues in Centenary Park gardens in centre of
Eudunda.
Terowie : 1 Electric barbecue located in Pioneer Park, Main Street (next to the

CHEMICAL DRUM DISPOSAL
Council conducts a yearly DrumMuster program. Dates and times are notified 8892 0100
in the local press and on Council’s website. Contact Technical Services.
CHEMICALS – DISPOSAL
Council cannot accept unwanted farm and household chemicals. For information 8204 2051
on disposal depots and the ChemCollect Program, contact Zero Waste.
CITIZENSHIP
Australian Citizenship application forms are available from Post Offices or via the
Department of Immigration and Citizenship website www.immi.gov.au or by phone. 131880

Council consists of 7 Elected Members, one of whom is Mayor.
The Council area is divided into 4 Wards – Hallett, Burra, Robertstown and Eudunda.

Council Meetings
Meetings commence at 1.00 pm, with public question time being allocated between
1.00 pm – 1:30 pm. Council meetings are normally held on the 3rd Tuesday of each
month commencing at 1.00 pm in the Council Meeting Room, Burra. The public
are welcome to attend all Council meetings.
Committees and Working Parties
Council Committees and Working Parties meet regularly to discuss various issues
and to make recommendations to the full Council.

Council Logo
The hills depict the ranges in the area and symbolise the four District Councils
which amalgamated to form the Regional Council of Goyder in 1997.
The symbols represent the key economic aspects of the area - Sheep – studs,
wool and meat industry; Mine Buildings – mining history; Wheat – cereal crops;
Windmill – pastoral areas and engineering works in the region. The line beneath
the symbols represents Goyder’s Line which dissects the Council area.

DEAD ANIMALS
Arrangements will be made to remove dead animals if they are on Council 8892 0100
property, or Council’s reserves and roadsides. Contact Technical Services.
DEVELOPMENT
Development Plan
All development applications are assessed against the Goyder (Regional Council) 8892 0100
Development Plan having regard to the Zoning of the particular parcel of land to
be developed. For further information contact the Development Officer.
Development Applications
All development applications to undertake building work (new, additions, demolition)
are assessed against the relevant building codes and standards. For further
information contact the Building Officer. A development application must be
lodged prior to undertaking the work. Assessment of applications can be
undertaken in various stages - Development Plan (Planning) Consent; Waste
Water Control Systems (Sewerage) Applications/Approval; Building Rules
Consent. For all enquiries regarding Development Applications, contact the

DIAL BEFORE YOU DIG
Council is a member of the Dial Before You Dig Service. Before commencing
any construction work it is essential to identify the location of any underground
pipes and cables in the proposed work area. Find out first with the DIAL
BEFORE YOU DIG service. Underground pipe and cable locations can
be provided within two working days. Damaging underground pipes and
cables can be a costly exercise not just for you but also the community.

Registration
Dogs at or over 3 months of age must be registered annually. Registration 8892 0100
forms are available from the Council offices.
Registration Renewals
Must be paid by the last working day in August. A late fee will apply as of the
1 st of September.

Lost Dogs
Contact the Council if you have lost your dog, or have found a lost dog, if 8892 0100

The Council Dog Pound is privately operated. All fees must be paid in
full at the Council offices prior to the release of any dog.

Domestic waste is treated by a septic tank and then the waste water is either
disposed of on site or off site to a Community Wastewater Management System

In locations not serviced by a CWMS, on-site waste water is either disposed of
by sub-surface soakage (soakage trenches) or by an aerobic treatment system
(irrigation).

In locations serviced by a CWMS, waste water is required to be directed into
the CWMS.

WASTE MANAGEMENT
Wheelie Bins – Kerbside Collection
Wheelie bins can be purchased from Council.
Recycling Bin (green lid 240ltr) $116 each and
Household (wet) Waste Bin (red lid 140ltr) $58 each.
Community and not-for profit groups can apply to purchase a bin at
the reduced cost of $83.
The annual service fee is $160 for 2012/13

Council operates 3 Transfer Stations, with opening hours as follows :
Burra Tue &Thu 2.00pm–3.00pm Sun 2.00pm–3.00pm
Eudunda Wed 2.00pm–3.00pm Sat 10.00am-12.00 noon
Hallett First weekend of each month Sat 10.00am-12.00 noon
Accepted - green, building, domestic and commercial waste, scrap metal,
mixed recyclables, white goods and car batteries.
Not accepted - any form of asbestos, or vehicle tyres of any type or size.
Waste oil facilities available only at the Burra and Eudunda.
The Transfer Stations are no longer land fill pits and are now segregated
dispose bins for: Metal, Green Waste, Cardboard, Plastics, E Waste and
Wet Waste.

Council is not responsible for mains water supply. For information and 8636 1400
enquiries – contact SA Water.
WEB SITE
The Council’s web site, www.goyder.sa.gov, provides information on the range
of Council’s activities and publications, local businesses, community and sporting
groups, and tourism in the Goyder region. Online facilities include online rate
payments and Minor Works requests, and various application forms/permit forms
for online completion and/or download.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Council may be able to offer experience to individuals from accredited placement 8892 0100
organisations. Contact the Manager Administrative Services.

YOUTH
For information on events and activities, for people aged between 8892 0100
12 and 25, initiated by the Goyder Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)
contact Council’s YAC Coordinator.
ZONING
All land within the Goyder Council area lies within a designated zone as 8892 0100
described in the Goyder (Regional Council) Development Plan. Landowners
are encouraged to view the Goyder (Regional Council) Development Plan to
determine which zone applies to their land and what are the zone objectives
and principles of development control that relate to development within that zone.
