Greenwich?<br />

The Business School has an excellent<br />

reputation in accounting <strong>and</strong> finance.<br />

This programme, developed with<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional accountancy bodies <strong>and</strong><br />

City <strong>of</strong> London financial institutions,<br />

allows students to enhance their<br />

knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills in accounting,<br />

finance <strong>and</strong> information technology, as<br />

well as providing a broad foundation in<br />

the key business areas.<br />

The City – a common shorth<strong>and</strong><br />

description for the financial services<br />

sector – comprises a mixture <strong>of</strong><br />

institutions providing services such as<br />

insurance, investment banking, asset<br />

management (including shares, bonds<br />

<strong>and</strong> trusts) <strong>and</strong> commercial banking.<br />

London has the largest foreign<br />

exchange centre in the world <strong>and</strong> is<br />

geographically ideally situated to trade<br />

with the world’s other major financial<br />

centres during the business trading day.<br />

The accountancy, banking <strong>and</strong> finance<br />

sectors <strong>of</strong>fer high salaries, making them<br />

a career <strong>of</strong> choice for graduates looking<br />

for rewarding jobs.<br />

The programme places emphasis on<br />

integrating accounting, financial <strong>and</strong><br />

systems theory with the practical<br />

application <strong>of</strong> information technology<br />

skills, using current business s<strong>of</strong>tware.<br />

<strong>Information</strong> management <strong>and</strong> systems<br />

play a major role in the management <strong>of</strong><br />

the finances <strong>of</strong> many organisations. On<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> this degree, students<br />

graduate with a highly marketable<br />

combination <strong>of</strong> accounting <strong>and</strong> finance<br />

expertise, as well as transferable<br />

analytical, s<strong>of</strong>tware <strong>and</strong> systems skills.<br />

After successful completion <strong>of</strong> the first<br />

year <strong>of</strong> studies, students may transfer to<br />

the second year <strong>of</strong> the BA Hons<br />

<strong>Accounting</strong> <strong>and</strong> Finance degree.<br />

Transfer is subject to passing all courses<br />

<strong>and</strong> obtaining an overall average <strong>of</strong> 50<br />

per cent or more.<br />

Teaching a nd assessment<br />

All degree programmes are taught using<br />

a combination <strong>of</strong> lectures, tutorials,<br />

seminars, case studies <strong>and</strong><br />

presentations. Courses combine a<br />

strong commercial orientation with<br />

academic rigour. Students are assessed<br />

through assignments, examinations <strong>and</strong><br />

presentations. <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Greenwich<br />

lecturers have sector-specific<br />

experience, as well as excellent<br />

Depending on the options chosen,<br />

students attract different levels <strong>of</strong><br />

exemption from pr<strong>of</strong>essional bodies<br />

Entry requirements: applicants with less<br />

than four years <strong>of</strong> full-time work<br />

experience must have at least two<br />

A-levels or an AVCE double award.<br />

Those not <strong>of</strong>fering Key Skills level 3 will<br />

need to have 200 UCAS points or<br />

equivalent. If the qualifications include<br />

Key Skills level 3, the requirement is 240<br />

UCAS points. Points from AS-levels will<br />

also be taken into account. In addition,<br />

GCSE English <strong>and</strong> mathematics at grade<br />

C or above, or equivalent, are required.<br />

Applicants with four or more years <strong>of</strong><br />

full-time work experience are considered<br />

on an individual basis. Direct entry into<br />

the second or third year is available for<br />
