<strong>The</strong> <strong>ALE</strong> clients are applications or services that process EPC tag information. Several<br />

methods are defined within the <strong>ALE</strong> interface which allow clients to specify the data they<br />

wish to receive and the conditions for the production of the reports containing the data.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se methods are:<br />

• define, undefine<br />

• subscribe, unsubscribe<br />

• poll<br />

• immediate<br />

• getECSpecNames, getECSpec<br />

<strong>The</strong>se methods are defined normatively in Section 8.1.<br />

13.2 Scenarios<br />

A few sample scenarios are illustrated below to demonstrate the use of the <strong>ALE</strong> interface<br />

messages. Below is a representative list of the kinds of scenarios <strong>ALE</strong> supports.<br />

1. Defining Subscribe ECName, ECSpec<br />

a. Direct Subscription. Defined by A, Report to: A<br />

b. Indirect Subscription Defined by A, Report to: B<br />
