Work Based Learning (Hair and Beauty, Land
10 Level 1 qualification
For details on the courses above please refer to the individual subject pages.
We expect pupils to make a broad and balanced choice in their options available in the Pathway they
are following. This means for many pupils choosing a subject in each of the entitlement areas of
Technology, a Modern Language, a Humanities subject and an Arts subject.
Applied learning courses include Vocational subjects and Applied GCSE’s which involve a more
practical approach where learning is applied to the world of work. They are not easier options,
requiring a considerable time commitment to meet controlled assessment demands involving the
production of extensive portfolios.
Where pupils have chosen a subject that takes up 2 option lines, (as in the Work Based Learning), they
will be expected to make their remaining choices from two different entitlement areas e.g. an art and
a language in order to provide the necessary breadth.
Learning Pathway 1 (Work Based Learning) will be delivered according to demand. If you are following
this Pathway you must put down one of the following areas:– Land Based Operations, Motor Vehicle,
Hair and Beauty, Catering. When the options are returned we will then work to set up the delivery
locally. The remaining Learning pathways are presented on page 9 that follows.
