A Message from Rabbi Klammer
A Yom Ha’atzmaut to Remember
Volume 3 Issue 31
May 9, 2008
4 Iyar 5768
This week, we had many fabulous programs in honor of Yom Ha’atzmaut. Baruch Hashem,
our nighttime program in commemoration of Yom Hazikaron and in celebration of Yom
Ha’atzmaut was well-attended. The 8 th grade boys performed a very meaningful skit about
The 5th grade choir did ‏.דגלנות and the 8 th grade girls performed a very inspirational ‏,צה ‏"ל
an amazing job leading us in song under the direction of Mr. Sandy Shmueli. During the
day of Yom Ha’atzmaut, we had dancing and a special inspirational presentation by Rabbi
Shalom Hammer, an American Rabbi who made על יה and served in the Israeli Army. Rabbi Hammer’s
army stories were fascinating and engaging. Hila and Yael, our Bat Ami women, did an incredible job
leading the commemorations and celebrations and decorating the building. They helped us create a truly
extraordinary Yom Ha’atzmaut experience! A big yasher koach to our entire faculty for coming out en masse
to our Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration and to Morah Weber and Rabbi Feder for overseeing all aspects of the
program. A big thank you is also due to Mrs. Rena Kwestel, our parent chair, and Rivka Sassoon, who
assisted Mrs. Kwestel.
A Pleasant Vision of Medinat Yisrael
ונקדשתי “ Emor, During the week, I spoke to the students about the well-known pasuk in this week’s parasha,
(and I will be sanctified in the midst of Bnei Yisrael)”. From this pasuk, we learn that we בתוך בני ישראל
need ten men to make a minyan and to recite שבקדושה ‏.דברים We also learn that a “kiddush Hashem” takes
place, in its most powerful form, in the presence of ten people. With these Divrei Torah in mind, I told the
students the following anecdote:
During my last trip to Israel, as I arrived in Yerushalayim, the very first thing that I saw was not the כותל or
some other special site. Rather, I saw a car accident. Next to a badly dented automobile stood two yeshiva
bachurim surrounded by a crowd of people. One of the bachurim wore a large kippa seruga. (Perhaps he was
from Mercaz Harav?) The other bachur wore a large black hat. The two bachurim had their arms around each
other’s shoulders, and they were apologizing to each other. Imagine that! Often, when a car accident occurs,
people yell and scream at each other; yet, these two yeshiva bachurim were embracing each other and
apologizing to one another. What a beautiful השם ‏!קידוש And, what a wonderful image of מדינת ישראל to
‏.אהבה ואחוה שלום ורעות mind: keep in
מדינת May this image be found throughout all of Israel. Let us continue to celebrate the 60 th birthday of
1! together now, and also at the Israel Day Parade, on Sunday, June ישראל
Shabbat Shalom!
Parsha in the Sand
Mazel Tov to the 3rd grade girls
upon completing Parashat Chayei
Sara! Both classes celebrated
with a sandcastle-building
contest at the beach. The girls
divided into groups, and each
group chose a topic from the
parsha to depict out of sand.
Some topics included: Ma’arat
Hamachpeila, the well where
Eliezer met Rivka, Sara’s tent…
The girls enhanced their work
with props, such as dolls, food
coloring, and toy animals. Each
sandcastle was truly a
masterpiece. We wish Morah
Siegel, Morah Hamel, and all the
girls Mazel Tov on this siyum.
Famous Personalities
Visit Fourth Grade
The 4th grade girls made
history come to life last week
when they presented the
biographies they wrote about
famous women. The girls
arrived in class dressed up to
resemble the various authors,
First Ladies, and pioneers
whose lives they researched.
These famous personalities
had a lot to teach the
students about the challenges
and successes they faced in
their lives, as well as the
remarkable effort and
conviction that led them to
accomplish their goals.
