Dr. David Hull Honored by the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut
(Hartford, Conn.) – David Hull, MD, Clinical Director of Transplantation
at Hartford Hospital, has been awarded the James P. Colangelo, MD
Achievement Award from the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut.
This distinction is the highest honor given by the Foundation to those who
have positively affected the lives of patients with kidney disease.
“Dr. Hull’s commitment to his patients, as well as the entire renal
community, has been extraordinary,” stated Kim Hathaway, Connecticut
Regional Vice President of the National Kidney Foundation. “He is a
dedicated and strong leader, and the NKF is thrilled to present this award
to him.”
The James P. Colangelo, MD Achievement Award was started in 1996 to
honor those who through their actions emulate the work of Dr. James P.
Colangelo. Dr. Colangelo brought significant growth to the National
Kidney Foundation of Connecticut. Each year, this award is presented at
the organization’s volunteer meeting to recognize someone in his honor
who has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients and
their families.

able to expand my ideas and knowledge about kidney disease, making me
a much more valuable resource to help my patients,” said Dr. Hull. “This

experience – and the opportunity to work with a great team of partners such as Drs. Matthew Brown and Anne Lally –
has helped me provide the best environment possible for our patients, giving them the best chance of succeeding with
their health care.”
As the Director of Transplantation at Hartford Hospital, Dr. Hull performs transplants for patients in need of a new
kidney or liver. Throughout his tenure, he has performed more than 1,000 transplantation surgeries among live donors
and recipients. He performed the first minimally-invasive donor nephrectomy (removal of the kidney) in 1997.
As a member of the board for the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut, Dr. Hull has volunteered his time to raise
donations and awareness about kidney disease among the medical community, legislators and the public. He has been
actively involved with the organization’s annual Serving Connecticut Kidney Walk, most recently serving as chair of the
event, as well as its KEEP program, which educates certain high-risk populations about the importance of managing
hypertension and diabetes.
Dr. Hull has received additional recognition from the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut in the past, including
the Transplantation Leadership Award in 2005, and the Fundraising Achievement Award in 2005 and in 2003. He has
authored more than 70 medical publications and abstracts, and has delivered more than 100 lectures pertaining to
transplantation.

Dr.Hull is an associate clinical professor of surgery at the University of Connecticut, School of Medicine. He resides in
West Hartford.
