<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>David</strong> <strong>Hull</strong> <strong>Honored</strong> <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Kidney</strong> Foundation of Connecticut<br />
(<strong>Hartford</strong>, Conn.) – <strong>David</strong> <strong>Hull</strong>, MD, Clinical Director of Transplantation<br />
at <strong>Hartford</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>, has been awarded <strong>the</strong> James P. Colangelo, MD<br />
Achievement Award from <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Kidney</strong> Foundation of Connecticut.<br />
This distinction is <strong>the</strong> highest honor given <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> Foundation to those who<br />
have positively affected <strong>the</strong> lives of patients with kidney disease.<br />
“<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Hull</strong>’s commitment to his patients, as well as <strong>the</strong> entire renal<br />
community, has been extraordinary,” stated Kim Hathaway, Connecticut<br />
Regional Vice President of <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Kidney</strong> Foundation. “He is a<br />
dedicated and strong leader, and <strong>the</strong> NKF is thrilled to present this award<br />
to him.”<br />
The James P. Colangelo, MD Achievement Award was started in 1996 to<br />
honor those who through <strong>the</strong>ir actions emulate <strong>the</strong> work of <strong>Dr</strong>. James P.<br />
Colangelo. <strong>Dr</strong>. Colangelo brought significant growth to <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong><br />
<strong>Kidney</strong> Foundation of Connecticut. Each year, this award is presented at<br />
<strong>the</strong> organization’s volunteer meeting to recognize someone in his honor<br />
who has been dedicated to improving <strong>the</strong> quality of life for patients and<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir families.<br />
“Through my experience at <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Kidney</strong> Foundation, I have been<br />
able to expand my ideas and knowledge about kidney disease, making me<br />
a much more valuable resource to help my patients,” said <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Hull</strong>. “This<br />

Presenting <strong>the</strong> award is Kim Hathaway,<br />

experience – and <strong>the</strong> opportunity to work with a great team of partners such as <strong>Dr</strong>s. Mat<strong>the</strong>w Brown and Anne Lally –<br />
has helped me provide <strong>the</strong> best environment possible for our patients, giving <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> best chance of succeeding with<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir health care.”<br />
As <strong>the</strong> Director of Transplantation at <strong>Hartford</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>, <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Hull</strong> performs transplants for patients in need of a new<br />
kidney or liver. Throughout his tenure, he has performed more than 1,000 transplantation surgeries among live donors<br />
and recipients. He performed <strong>the</strong> first minimally-invasive donor nephrectomy (removal of <strong>the</strong> kidney) in 1997.<br />
As a member of <strong>the</strong> board for <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Kidney</strong> Foundation of Connecticut, <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Hull</strong> has volunteered his time to raise<br />
donations and awareness about kidney disease among <strong>the</strong> medical community, legislators and <strong>the</strong> public. He has been<br />
actively involved with <strong>the</strong> organization’s annual Serving Connecticut <strong>Kidney</strong> Walk, most recently serving as chair of <strong>the</strong><br />
event, as well as its KEEP program, which educates certain high-risk populations about <strong>the</strong> importance of managing<br />
hypertension and diabetes.<br />
<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Hull</strong> has received additional recognition from <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Kidney</strong> Foundation of Connecticut in <strong>the</strong> past, including<br />
<strong>the</strong> Transplantation Leadership Award in 2005, and <strong>the</strong> Fundraising Achievement Award in 2005 and in 2003. He has<br />
authored more than 70 medical publications and abstracts, and has delivered more than 100 lectures pertaining to<br />
transplantation.
<strong>Dr</strong>.<strong>Hull</strong> is an associate clinical professor of surgery at <strong>the</strong> University of Connecticut, School of Medicine. He resides in<br />
West <strong>Hartford</strong>.<br />
