Hartford Hospital’s coordinated and comprehensive program in gynecologic
oncology provides the region’s best care for women with cancers of
the ovary, fallopian tube, uterus, cervix, vagina, vulva, and related
tumors. Physicians from the Division of Gynecologic Oncology collaborate
with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists,
and other cancer specialists in planning and providing comprehensive
care for patients with gynecologic cancer and their families.
Research is an active component of the program, including participation
in clinical trials offered by the Gynecologic Oncology Group
(GOG), the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded cooperative
group dedicated exclusively to the women with gynecologic cancers.
This affords our patients the opportunity to participate in studies previously
available only at great geographic distances from their homes and
families. Unique program components include minimally invasive and
robotic surgery; a range of radiation therapy options including IMRT,
HDR and LDR brachytherapy; numerous innovative systemic therapy
alternatives; multidisciplinary consensus conferences; unique support
programs; and active education and research efforts. We also provide
one of the state’s largest and most respected breast and cervical cancer
early detection programs to help reach underserved women with free
exams, pap smears, and mammograms. All of these efforts result in our
recognition as one of the state’s leaders in gynecologic oncology.
