WALKING ROUTES
IN THE AREA OF HERSONISSOS
The walking route through 'Rosa' gorge invites
you to reveal the natural beauty of breathtaking
landscapes, cages and archeological sites.
Location: 'Rosa' gorge lies between the villages of Gonies
and Kera, of Hersonissos Municipality, in a distance
of 25km from Herakleion city. The gorge entrance
is 2km southwest of Gonies on an altitude of 300m
and the exit is in upper Kera on an altitude of 650m.
Route description: The total length of the gorge path is
2,7km and walking is relaxing for anyone in good physical
condition. Visitors enter the gorge through a small side
agricultural road and the gorge pathway expands between
the Aposelemis riversides and the river shore. Walking
through the gorge is pleasant and safe and in addition,
presents great variety of landscape and local flora. At the
end of the pathway, there is a rest area where visitors
can relax under the shade and enjoy the magnificent view.

BY BICYCLE
For those who adore bicycling, there are four
routes to explore the beauty of the Municipality.
1st Route- Departing from Avdou Village uphill to Ag. Fotini
(650m) cave with the little chirch in the darkness.
2nd Route- Departing from Gonies Village (250m)
through the Ampelos gorge uphill to Kera monastery, Gonies
Village and way back. Approximately 20km long .
3rd Route- Departing from Potamies Village towards
Sfentili Village and then to Gouverniotissa monastery.
Relaxing route with picturesque landscape.
4th Route- Departing from Potamies Village (120m) up to
the little church to Agia Kiriaki (300m) and down through
the olive- tree groves. Approximately 10-12 km long.
