Pre-polymers
Isocyanate pre-polymers are often cross-linked by MbOCA to form polyurethane elastomers, which are then
moulded. For more information on MbOCA, see the health and safety topics page on HSE’s rubber website.
Fully reacted polyurethanes
These usually contain negligible amounts of isocyanate as the reaction has gone to completion. If processed at
high temperatures there can however be some isocyanate release. Many solutions contain highly flammable
solvents, which will require the usual occupational hygiene and fire safety precautions including LEV.
