Assignment of tasks<br />

The objective of the diploma thesis "Game Console" is to develop a<br />

game console. The Processor of the game console is based on a<br />

FPGA. The FPGA contains a soft core and the games should be<br />

programmed in C/C++.The self-made games are displayed on a<br />

screen. The user’s Dexterity, reaction and coordination are responsible<br />

for controlling the game and these skills should be improved while<br />

playing. You can compete with yourself or other player.<br />

To control the games an acceleration sensor mounted on a balance<br />

board measures the inclination. The base of the console should be a<br />

Spartan 3E Board. The external Hardware should communicate with<br />

VHDL-programmed controllers, which are also contained in the FPGA.<br />

Realization<br />

The game console should be presented at the open day at the <strong>HTL</strong><br />

<strong>Hollabrunn</strong>. Visitors need no technical skills to play with the console.<br />

The experience gained from the project should be used for educational<br />

purposes at the <strong>HTL</strong> <strong>Hollabrunn</strong>.<br />

A first prototype was created with a simple game in VHDL. Acceleration<br />

sensors are used for the input.<br />

Results<br />

The Balance Board is built.<br />

The Softcore is designed and hardware support is implemented.<br />

A Library in C is written to provide an easy use of the hardware.<br />
