The resp<strong>on</strong>dents also outlined various<br />

ways in which corrupti<strong>on</strong> could result<br />

in lowering <strong>of</strong> the GDP growth, namely<br />

lesser foreign direct investment (FDI)<br />

into the country, negative impact <strong>on</strong><br />

the performance <strong>of</strong> capital markets<br />

<strong>and</strong> a volatile political <strong>and</strong> ec<strong>on</strong>omic<br />

envir<strong>on</strong>ment.<br />

Internati<strong>on</strong>al research 1 suggests that<br />

the corrupti<strong>on</strong> levels in a country <strong>of</strong>ten<br />

have an adverse effect <strong>on</strong> FDI inflows:<br />

a <strong>on</strong>e-point increase in the corrupti<strong>on</strong><br />

level can lead to a reducti<strong>on</strong> in per capita<br />

FDI inflows by up to 11 percent.<br />
