Dear Brothers and Sisters of the IBEW:
The International Office has reooived several suggestions from our membership
for some changes in our stock of "IBEW merchandise" (both additions and deletiOns).
[ hope our members will continue to enjoy this service. International President Barry
and I are proud to present this new catalog showing our present line of merchandise
bearing our logo and/or IBEW initials.
We think you will like it. Whether buying for yourself, or gifts for your family
and friends, the catalog references the old favorites, together with some nice new
items that provide an opportunity to display your pride in our great organization.
While prices are always subject to change, you will find the "current" price list in
the back of the catalog. I would further note, this merchandise is not a profit·making
proposition for the IBEW; each item is priced to cover our cost plus handling, shipping
and publicity expenses. The purpose is to avail the membership of such
union·made apparel and novelties at reasonable prices. Happy sh'OPIJin;!i.!
My very best wishes to each and every one.
the fnten"lIional and local unions will
mail separmc reduclion chcck~ to each
objector. along wi th detailed explanations
of Ihe expen ditllTe~ on which the
fee reductions are based.
The reducti on s are based on thc
percenHlgc or lhe unions' ex penditures
!luring the previous fiscal yeur that were
devmod 10 "nonchargeable" acriviriesthat
bo. aClivilies which objccto~ may
decline to suppon. For example. the
International determined that 15.9
percent orits expenditures forthe 199 1
liscal year were for "non hargeable"
activities. T he locals' "nonchargeable"
portions vary. with local unions devoting
between 5 percent and I 0 percent
of their annua l c;\pcndi tures to
"nonchargeable" aClivitie . tn no year
hilS any IBEW local union spent a
greater pereentage of its expenditures
on "nonchargeable" activitie than the
International did. although some of the
locals use the Intemalional's percentage
to ca lculate their own annu:tr
reduclioll.
Under the plan. objectors are charged
on ly for activities which are reaso n ~
ably related 1.0 cofleelive bargaining.
or to preserving the in IilUliollul
.tutu. of the organization. To understand
the difference betWEen "chargeable"
and "nonchargeable" expenditures,
the following illustrations may
be helpful.
Among expenditures "chargeable" t
objeclors arc those Illude for Iht:: negotiation
