Conference Announcement North American Material Culture Research : New Objectives, New Theories Pending funding, Winterthur Museum and Memorial University of Newfoundland will be cosponsoring an international conference on "North American Material Culture Research : New Objectives, New Theories ." This gathering will be held in St . John's, Newfoundland, June 19-21, 1986, and will bring together leading material culture researchers from Canada and the United States . The New Brunswick Museum in Saint John, New Brunswick, is preparing a travelling exhibition of ship portraits depicting vessels built in the province or those that sailed under the house flags of New Brunswick firms . We would like to know the whereabouts of such portraits as we are developing an index of such and are always interested in purchasing works of good artistic quality . The museum also seeks papers, logs, diaries and other manuscript material relating to shipbuilding and shipping in New Brunswick . Contact : Robert S .
