“If those had been black
people stopped with all that
dope on I-75 the DA would
have been jumping for joy.
200 pounds and these people
were let go.”
“Who were the idiots who
let those people with the 200
pounds of pot go?”
“They let those drug dealers
on the Interstate go.
That’s comical.”
Editor’s note: Do a little
thinking here, folks. Do you
really think that investigation
is concluded?”
“Who is the county
administrator, Mr. McLeod
or Mr. Brooker?”
“Let me get this right.
Harold Brooker is deciding
what kind of asphalt needs
to be used by the road
department. Bob McLeod is
dancing to Harold’s tune
and Mike Babb doesn’t have
any idea what happened.
Business as usual.”
“The article on the county
commissioners and the man
run off from the roads department
is the kind of article the
newspaper needs to be
doing.”
“If I had a job I could
Everything I have is worn
out.”
“Ford Motor Co. has been
frugal enough that they are
not accepting the bailout
money. I am buying Ford.”
“They’ve been wondering
what to do with the trade center
in Dalton. At least for a
short time it would be a great
place to help the homeless. It
might not make any money
for the city of Dalton but oh
what a star it would put in
your crown!”
“Maybe it’s time to ask
the question, was I better off
under Republican capitalism
or Democrat communism?”
“Before all you
Republicans cry about pork
and wasteful spending in the
stimulus bill, remember that
there were 24 Republican
senators who put their own
pork in that bill.”
Lloyd remembers: I
haven’t been superstitious
about Friday the 13th since I
was on a troop ship going to
Europe to fight the enemy in
1943. Nothing happened to
the ship, so I quit thinking it
was unlucky.”
“Teens need to practice
“How many of those people
who are going to have to stay
in that ‘lousy Murray High
a new school for some kids
and leave the other kids
behind.”
“I would like to comment
on all the comments to the
are doing your job. Keep up
the good work.”
“Some people don’t want
to know the truth. That’s
why they don’t like Bill
O’Reilly.”
“I’d like to see the
Whitfield County superintendent
and the principals
work at a bachelor’s degree
with five years of experience
level.”
“How about we don’t
legalize illegals. Send them
back and open up jobs for
legal citizens who can then
pay taxes.”
“I’ll give Mr. Espy some
free advice. If he keeps harping
on this amnesty for illegal
aliens all of the white people
are going to stop subscribing
to his paper.”
Editor: So, you are the
official spokesperson for
“all the white people?”
“Churches are non-profit
organizations. People choose
to give their money and it is
used to keep the church
going. If you are going to tax
churches, you need to tax all
non-profit organizations.”
“No job is secure. Our
only security is trusting in the
Lord.”
“I am sure Mayor
Pennington told the DDDA
to get rid of Sarah Harrison
or funds would have been
cut.”
“Mr. Espy you want to
give amnesty to all the illegals
in this country? Yet you
will not set the example by
sponsoring one. Are you just
another liberal hypocrite?
Editor: I have never
made that argument. You
dreamed that up. Also, I
think we should win the
war in Iraq, but I don’t
plan on parachuting in with
an M-16. There are different
ways to support an idea.
“I have been working on
Corporate Drive for the last
two weeks and I totally agree
with the callers who have
been saying you need a red
light at that intersection. It is
horrible.”
“Why are we pumping
money into these failing
financial institutions? If a
person is bankrupt they don’t
loan them a dime.”
“I read in the paper about
that Tunnel Hill policeman
making that drug bust on the
Interstate. Maybe the dumdums
complaining about
them patrolling there will
shut up now.”
authority, I don’t know
what we would do.”
Under SB 200, GDOT
would remain responsible
only for maintaining existing
roads and bridges.
“Creating plans and
authorizing projects
would be done by the new
board,” Williams said. “It
would give the governor a
lot more power.”
Rep. John Meadows,
R-Calhoun, says he also
has doubts about the bill.
“I’m
We’ve
got to do
s o m e
work on
t h a t
Meadows thing,”
he said.
Meadows said he fears
the members of the proposed
board, unlike the
State Transportation
Board, might represent
just a handful of areas.
“Those appointments
need to come from across
the state,” he said. “They
are going to have to work
a lot harder to get me to
come on board.”
Members of both the
Whitfield County Board
of Commissioners and the
Dalton City Council have
criticized the plan, saying
it would centralize transportation
decisions. They
have also expressed concern
about a part of the
bill that would end current
state law requiring 80 percent
of all federal transportation
dollars to be
divided equally among
each of the state’s congressional
districts. They
say that could lead to the
metro Atlanta area sucking
up all of that money.
“That’s the type of sentiment
I’ve heard pretty
much all over the 9th
Congressional District
from city and county officials,”
to
the State
Transportation Board.
The 9th District, which
includes Whitfield and
Murray counties,stretches
from Dade County to
White County and as far
south as Forsyth County.
“The only people I’ve
heard who are really in
favor of (of the plan)
would primarily be
Republican members of
the state Senate,” said
Farrow.
Farrow said the transportation
board has moved
to clean up problems in
the department and prioritize
projects
Meadows said he isn’t
opposed to changes in
GDOT or the transportation
board, just the particular
changes that have
been proposed.
“It seems like we are
like to see a lot more study
of what we can do,” he
said.
eight times before (a victim)
It’s a process people go
Victims don’t typically
