(SYNOPSIS)
AWADHESH KUMAR MISRA
In my association with the Indian Navy, in the last 24 years I have been exposed to a myriad of situations and
experiences relevant to Leadership Challenges involving Technical Operations, Human Resource Management &
Training, Projects, Contracts, International and Cross–cultural Negotiations, all facets of operations management,
Infrastructure Creation & management, Forecasting and Induction of newer assets & technology. I have been closely
involved in defining the strategic policy initiatives, setting of organisational goals, setting up and restructuring of
organisations both in India and Abroad and defining long-term and short-term qualitative & quantitative value adds. Since
last 08 years i.e. Apr 2004, I am posted as Joint Director Aircraft Carrier Projects, and am involved with the contractual
negotiations with Russian Govt for a 2 Billion US$ project. In the contract, I have been specifically involved with
negotiations and execution of works related to trials, acceptance, installation and delivery of major Equipment from
India/abroad to Russia (total valued at 400 Million US dollars), Overseas Manpower deployment, Operations, Trials and
Training. These tasks have involved preparation of feasibility reports, detailed project documents, technical and
commercial evaluations, costing and pre-contractual negotiations & bargaining strategy. I have also interacted with
stakeholders in India at various governmental levels and authorities abroad and am involved in higher management
project monitoring and decision making. Accordingly, I made significant contribution at appropriate hierarchical levels to
remove bottlenecks and facilitate process improvements.
I strongly feel that I can contribute significantly towards the growth of an organization and this is what I have to offer
as ‘Value Add’:
‣ Strategic Perspective: My stint at higher echelons of decision making at Ministry of Defence/Naval
Headquarters, Command Headquarters and International exposure to HR Management, Contractual deliberations
and execution has provided me adequate exposure to provide a strategic overview with a “Top-Down’ approach
to the majority of Human Resources problems faced by the organisations. Organisational Clarity on ‘Strategic
Vision’ with focus on Organisational Goals and Quality Policy would therefore be my thrust area. This would
be critical whilst leading organisations.
‣ Project & Contract Management: My exposure at Projects and Contracts, both at production centres, factory
premises and yards has provided me insight on emerging Leadership challenges, HR Employment,
CPM/PERT based Project Monitoring & Morale & Efficiency issues and therefore an opportunity to establish
Need based Cost-Benefit Analysis for efficient running of any organisation.
‣ Human Resource Management & Training: Having had the opportunity to lead and manage a large pool of
diversely abled manpower in terms of technological knowhow, orientation, aptitude & attitude and capability.
Organisational challenges for Competency Mapping, Talent Retention and Career planning have been the critical
issues which have been overcome by me following best HR practices, processes & SOPs and by designing &
promulgating end to end corporate HR solutions. I am confident that my ‘Hands on’ practical exposure would be
immensely beneficial to organisations in managing challenges necessitated due to ‘Change Management’ and
‘Assimilation of Newer Technologies’.
‣ Operations: I have had a chequered Naval Career involving all facets of Naval Operations, Strategic Planning,
quantitative & qualitative forecasting, resource allocation, and infrastructure creation & management in
support of operational plans. This extensive exposure has provided me ‘User’s Perspective’ whilst designing and
implementing operational policies/procedures.
‣ International Negotiations: Having interacted and being involved in hard negotiations with delegates from US,
Russia, France, UK, China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, South Africa, Iran, Oman, Mauritius, Maldives etc. over
Contractual and Operational issues, I can contribute effectively to Contractual Cross-cultural/Multi-national
negotiations and Operations.
