. Indirect (Network) connection: A scanner with network interface can be shared by all users
within a local area network. Avision’s Network scanner is implemented with network port to
be used as a network scanner.
Application Programming Interface
An image-editing application such as Microsoft Paint or Adobe Photoshop needs to communicate
with the scanners. There are many different scanners and many of those scanners use different
protocols. To simplify applications programming, some Application Programming Interface (API)
were developed. The API presents a uniform interface to the scanner. Common scanner software
uses the following API interfaces:
TWAIN: Short for (Technology without An Interesting Name), is a widely used software
protocol and applications programming interface (API) that regulates
communications between software applications and image input devices such as
scanners. Popular image-editing software applications such as Adobe PhotoShop or Microsoft Paint
support TWAIN protocol. Avision provides TWAIN scanner driver for all its scanner models.
ISIS: Short for ISIS (Image and Scanner Interface Specification) is an industry
standard created by Pixel Translation (today: EMC captive). To strengthen the
sales of its scanners, Avision has developed ISIS drivers for most of its sheet-fed or document
scanner models. In addition, Avision’s ISIS drivers have been certified by Kofax to ensure its
performance and reliability with its image processing tool, Kofax VRS (VirtualReScan) software
application. More than 300 titles of imaging applications support the ISIS driver and the users of
these applications can be confident and safe in using the Avision ISIS drivers.
