INTRODUCTION
Simulators are increasingly recognised by the marine
industry as essential tools for use in maritime skill
acquisition, training and assessment, providing
accelerated and intensive experience in a safe,
controlled environment, emergency response training
in a risk-free environment, and optimisation of
shipboard procedures.
All the above will lead to:
• risk avoiding compared to real situation
• cost reducing compared to onboard
manoeuvring
Teaching and evaluation in the maritime field must be
based on principles that reflect technological progress
and the increased use of automation on-board of
vessels, and in traffic management systems.
TRAINING CAPABILITIES
IMC’s Officer Of the Watch- Ship Manoeuvring Simulator
(OOW-SMS) is designed to provide skillful training to the
Maritime Freshers in Navigation, Watch-keeping and Ship-
Handling. It is therefore apt for Maritime Institutes
imparting pre-sea training to the nautical and polyvalent
cadets. The OOW-SMS meets the requirements of the DG
shipping and concurs with the technical specifications as
laid down in their Training Circular no.28 of 2005
