2011 has indeed been an interesting
year for your local Lions and the
organisation as a whole.
We started the year with many disasters
and people requiring support of differing
kinds in their hard times.
Lions can hold their head high that they were
involved in the high profile disasters but also
more importantly in the local ones where we
our neighbours, friends and family needed that
little extra.

The swimming pool opened at the start of
November and many of you realised the value of
the season pass and this year we sold more than
we usually do.
They are still on sale and offer great value and
for a modest low fee you then have access to the
pool for the whole season.
To those who have purchased these already,
thank you. They make the life of the guards
easier and it also helps us maintain the
continuation of the pool for you.
Plans are being made for the Learn to Swim
classes that we normally have run in the pool in
the school holidays.
This will be subject to the availability of a
suitable teacher so watch out for the notices.
This year we have sent many pairs of old
prescription glasses off to those less fortunate.
So rather than leave those old glasses in the
drawer, please consider donating them to the
glasses campaign that lions has been running for
a number of years.
They can be left in a box at the Chemist in town.
At the hotel on Christmas Eve, Lions will again
be out selling their tickets in the hamper.
This is a great hamper and your support would
be appreciated.
Lions are also running a first aid course for some
of their members and if you would like to update
your qualifications please contact Jason Horton
on 4465 2222 who can provide you details
about when this is being run.
The course will also be suitable to first timers.
The primary school scholarships continue and
again this year we will be rewarding two local
children with $500 towards their first year at
high school.
While talking of young people the Annual
Youth of the Year campaign will be run on the
10 th December 2011 at the Osborne Park Hall.
There are three great young local contestants
and this is shaping up to be a great contest.

want to see our young people doing their best

1384, who will only be too happy to give you
the details and take your booking.
The Lions Christmas cakes and puddings are
available, as always at the usual venues.
They make great presents and are yummy as
well.
On behalf of the Kangaroo Valley Lions family
may your Christmas and New Year be safe and
filled with family and friends.
After Christmas Eve Lions take a break when
they too can spend time with their families and
recharge their batteries.
There is of course always one guarantee and
that is that they will be back in 2012, rested.

Last call for Art and Soul participation
The preparation for the publication of
the book designed to showcase many
special features of Kangaroo Valley is
well underway, with new surprises
appearing each week.
The editorial and photographic team are in
action virtually every day and are
discovering even more depth and interesting
subjects in the agricultural, horticultural
and artistic culture of the productive and
innovative citizens of this valley.
The deadline is fast approaching (like
December 7) for finalising the content of “Art
and soul of the Valley”, so any growers,
sowers, breeders, painters, sculptors,
photographers, music makers, instrument
makers, jewellers and the like who would like
to be featured in the book, please contact us
without delay.
