<strong>USA</strong> <strong>Shooting</strong> Team members<br />
attend Second Annual Annie<br />

Connor and Jaiden Grinnell traveled with <strong>USA</strong>S staff to Pinehurst,<br />
N.C., from Dec. 3-4, 2010. The event was established to<br />
celebrate Annie Oakley’s legacy. Grinnell, Corrie West <strong>USA</strong>S<br />

(Girls Really Into <strong>Shooting</strong>) team. The group enjoyed honoring<br />
Oakley’s legacy, shooting with Clay and Quail Cup participants<br />
and talking with area residents at the Community Celebration.<br />
Lance Cpl. James Bray Stack, a Marine and gold medalist of the 2008 Progressive Position Pistol (PPP) Championship<br />
lost his life in Afghanistan in November. “A young Marine from Arlington Heights was killed in Afghanistan<br />
Wednesday, only a month into his first tour of duty overseas. Lance Cpl. James Bray Stack leaves a wife, Katelyn<br />
Landeweer Stack, also from Arlington Heights, and their 1-year-old daughter, Mikayla, said his father, Robert Stack.<br />
Stack was shot during combat, according to papers the military gave the family. The 20-year-old man had been<br />
home-schooled by his parents, Linda and Robert Stack, with curriculum from Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington<br />
Heights, where his father teachers junior high science. Stack was in Afghanistan one month, and letters home<br />
had just arrived this week with descriptions of fierce fighting. He was a rifleman in India Company 3/5 Marines in<br />
the 1st division serving in Sangin in Helmand province, considered one of the most violent places in Afghanistan,<br />
according to The Associated Press. . . “As he grew older he expressed interest to serve his country,” his father said. “I<br />
think that was what motivated him. He wanted to use his skills. He was a very resourceful young man.” James Stack<br />
was a national champion air pistol shooter in the 2008 PPP Championship and a member of the Arlington International<br />
Airgun Club. He played soccer with Christian Liberty and was named Most Valuable Player on the school’s<br />

<strong>USA</strong> <strong>Shooting</strong> staff participated in a local Adopt-a-Family<br />
program for the holiday season. With item donations and<br />
monetary gifts, the staff raised over $700 to help brighten the<br />
family’s holidays. Athletes Emily Caruso, Caitlin Connor and<br />
Jaiden Grinnell volunteered their time to shop for items on the<br />
family’s need and wish lists. Moreover, during the drop-off day<br />
at the Community Partnership for Childhood Development<br />
(CPCD) headquarters, Olympic Training Center Resident Athletes<br />
Connor, Grinnell and Anthony Lutz (pictured L to R) spent<br />
the afternoon helping unload vehicles that dropped off Adopta-Family<br />
goods. Overall, <strong>USA</strong> <strong>Shooting</strong> contributed to the 250<br />
families that were adopted this year.<br />
