Internship Opportunities at Canadian Missions in China<br />

Program description<br />

The Embassy <strong>of</strong> Canada to China in Beijing, the Consulate General <strong>of</strong> Canada in Shanghai, the Consulate General <strong>of</strong><br />

Canada in Guangzhou, the Consulate General <strong>of</strong> Canada in Chongqing, and the Consulate General <strong>of</strong> Canada in Hong<br />

Kong are interested in hiring interns <strong>for</strong> the academic semester starting in September 2012.<br />

Internship opportunities at Canadian missions in China provide successful candidates with an opportunity to be involved<br />

in governmental affairs and to develop an understanding <strong>of</strong> the Canada-China bilateral relationship. The Internships are<br />

six months in duration. Please note that in exceptional cases, the duration <strong>of</strong> the internship may be shorter or longer<br />

than six months.<br />

The following Internship Positions are available at The Embassy <strong>of</strong> Canada to China in Beijing:<br />

Intern in Cultural and Public Affairs<br />

Intern in Media and Public Affairs<br />

Intern in Economics and Finance section<br />

The following Internship Position is available at The Consulate General <strong>of</strong> Canada in Shanghai:<br />

Intern in the Trade Section<br />

The following Internship Position is available at The Consulate General <strong>of</strong> Canada in Guangzhou:<br />

Intern in Foreign Policy and diplomatic services<br />

Eligibility<br />

Only the candidacy <strong>of</strong> Canadian citizens or permanent residents able to relocate to China will be considered <strong>for</strong> the<br />

positions.<br />

Only the candidacy <strong>of</strong> Canadian undergraduates or recent graduates (one year or less) will be considered <strong>for</strong> the<br />

positions.<br />

Selected candidates must complete a reliability screening be<strong>for</strong>e the start <strong>of</strong> the internship.<br />

Remuneration and health insurance<br />

An honorarium and the living expenses associated with the internships (costs associated with relocation, housing and<br />

living expenses) are to be supported by the candidates. In accordance with Government <strong>of</strong> Canada policy, interns will<br />

not be eligible <strong>for</strong> benefits such as, overtime compensation, sick leave, etc. Interns will be eligible <strong>for</strong> statutory holiday<br />

and visa reimbursement upon presentation <strong>of</strong> receipts.<br />

Interns are responsible <strong>for</strong> ensuring that they are covered by a national health plan in the country <strong>of</strong> the internship or by<br />

an adequate private insurance policy, be<strong>for</strong>e they start the internship.<br />

How to apply<br />

To be considered <strong>for</strong> an internship, applicants must submit the following:<br />

1. Candidate Internship Form, with preferred internships stated<br />

2. CV – maximum 2 pages<br />

3. Formal Statement <strong>of</strong> Interest - strictly one page or less, stating your preferred internship(s), why you are<br />

interested and why you would make a good intern<br />

4. Complete, updated, un<strong>of</strong>ficial transcript<br />

5. At least two (2) letters <strong>of</strong> reference

<strong>Applications</strong> must be received by Tuesday August 7 2012, 5:00pm. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Email<br />

submissions must be sent as a single word or pdf document to ai.asianstudies@utoronto.ca. The document title should<br />

be in the following <strong>for</strong>mat: “SURNAME Given name ChinaMissionsJuly2012”. The subject line <strong>of</strong> the email should read<br />
