Circular No. 08 of 2012-2015 Dated : 22.02.2013
Dear Colleagues,
NATION WIDE GENERAL STRIKE ON 20 TH AND 21 ST FEBRUARY 2013
United Forum of Bank Unions, along with 11 central trade unions had called for two
days nationwide general strike on 20 th and 21 st February 2013 against soaring price
rise and anti people and anti labour policies of the central government. 10 point
charter of demands of central trade unions included, concrete measures to contain
price rise and for employment generation, strict enforcement of labour laws, full stop
on dis-investment in PSUs, statutory minimum wages linked with cost price index,
improvement on provident fund, bonus and gratuity and assured pension for all.
UFBU besides supporting the charter of demands of central trade unions, demanded
early wage revision, stopping outsourcing, stopping anti employee bank reforms and
complete stoppage of anti trade union actions of the Government and managements.
The strike was a grand success. There was complete strike in all public sector
banks. We regret the inconvenience caused to general public. However, we are
sanguine the massive strike in all sectors and complete strike in public sector banks
will compel the government to sit back and review and reverse anti employees and
anti people policies. All our members in JMGS-I to SMGS-V whole heartedly
supported and participated in the strike. We salute the level of commitment and
dedication of our members and congratulate them for such a successful and
complete strike.
The organizational structure of our bank has been revised in the current year. Two
new zones have been created at Ludhiana and Lucknow. Besides, the nine zones
have been divided in three retail networks at Patiala (comprising of Patiala, Bhatinda
and Jalandhar zones), at Chandigarh (comprising of Ludhiana, Chandigarh and
Haryana zones) and at Delhi (comprising of Delhi, Lucknow and Mumbai zones).
Creation of retail networks (headed by General Managers) has been a new
phenomenon in the associate banks and ABOA Central Council, vide an amendment
in Section 10(b)(i) of ABOA Constitution adopted during triennial conference held at
Hyderabad from 24 th November to 26 th November 2012, provided for election of one
Assistant General Secretary for every retail network in all associate banks.
