Coaches & Personnel
The dance staff of the West Valley Dance Cats are
dedicated, experienced instructors and professionals
seeking to develop and increase all team members’
self-confidence and esteem. The dance staff strives to
ensure that each student reaches their goals, as well as
their fullest potential, by providing a variety of dance
styles and performance opportunities that allow them
to shine. Lead by its fearless Director Wendy Phillips,
guided by its knowledgeable Advisor Cathy Jelic, and
assisted by Coaches Shannon Claude and Lauren
McDermott, the Dance Cats have proven to be an
extraordinary success in the two years since it first
began. We are happy to welcome Devon McDermott to
our coaching staff, and look forward to the success of the
newest addition to our dance family: the Dance Kittens!

Teams
Dance Kittens – an introductory
team of 4-6 year old who will have
beginning instruction in ballet, jazz,
and tap. This will be a performancebased
team, and will meet once a
week at our WVMS dance studio on
Saturdays from 10:30-11:30am. Apart
from their weekly team class, we require all dancers
take one other dance class at an Action Day Primary
Plus location.
Upper Dance Cats – the oldest of our dancers, based
at our middle school. This team, comprised of dancers
in 5th-8th grade, will have the opportunity to take
instruction in a variety of styles including jazz, ballet,
hip-hop, lyrical, and tap. Their weekly practice time
will take place on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm at the
WVMS dance studio. Competition opportunities will
be available to all interested team members.
Junior Dance Cats – a performance team based at
our elementary school that is comprised of dancers in
2nd-4th grade. All members are required to take both
a ballet and jazz class in addition to their weekly team
class. Their weekly practice time will take place on
Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00pm in Amber’s dance studio.
Competition opportunities will be available to all
interested team members.
Competition Teams (Junior/Upper) – competition
teams are based on auditions held in the beginning of
the current season. All dancers must try out in order
to secure a spot on a team. This year, all dancers will
also have the opportunity to compete the routine
they learn in their weekly team classes: a production
line that will compete recreationally. Additional
items may be required for competitions such as entry
fees and costume accessories.
Team Essentials
All Dance Cats team members must have a team dance
bag, team warm-ups, team sneakers, performance
earrings, performance choker, and team’s required
makeup.
Please see your coaches for in-depth requirements such
as shoes, tights, hair accessories, and makeup. Additional
items such as false eyelashes, costume pieces, and
appropriate undergarments may also need to be purchased
for all resulting performances and competitions.
Dress Code
All Classes – hair must be worn up and away from the
face, and students must wear form-fitting clothing (i.e.
tank tops, dance shorts, leggings, etc.) to ensure that
they are learning proper posture and technique. Baggy
clothing, jeans, and dresses are NOT allowed in any
dance class.
Jazz –black or tan jazz shoes
Ballet – ballet pink shoes worn “neatly” (with no bows);
tights and leotards are strongly encouraged for all team
members
Tap – black or tan tap shoes
Lyrical/Contemporary – skin-color foot “Undeez”
Hip-Hop – sneakers or athletic shoes
Rate Schedule
This new rate schedule which will go into effect for the
2012-13 season.
Fees: $50 Registration Fee

Exclusive Unlimited Plan

The Dance Kittens are an invite-only team; however, we
invite all interested dancers to join the Dance Cats for
