Dear Parents:
The City of Friendswood Parks & Recreation Department strives to provide children, ages 6-13, with
an exceptional summer experience. Our day camp has provided unique and wonderful activities for
kids since 1988. We look forward to another successful year here at our Friendswood Summer Day
Camp. This year the camp begins June 3 rd and will continue through August 23 rd in two-week
sessions. The following is a tentative schedule:

Independence
Day
Our camp meets at Leavesley Park each morning at 9:00 a.m. (sharp). We then travel to a
designated park in the Friendswood area where activities will be conducted. Each child will have the
opportunity to participate in daily activities, which might include arts & crafts, cooking, nature
studies, swimming, team/individual sports and outdoor education. From there the campers will travel
to the pool and return to Leavesely Park by 4:00 p.m.
Please make note:
If you have extended care, your child is allowed to be dropped off no earlier than
7:00 a.m.
and picked up no later than
6:00 p.m.
*Children picked up after 6:00 p.m. will be assessed a late fee of $1.00 per minute.

Camp Checklist
Camp Items
LUNCHES-Each camper should bring his/her lunch and beverages each
day with their name clearly marked on it. There will not be a refrigerator
available to keep their lunches in, so please pack accordingly. We strongly
recommend that each camper bring a backpack to transport all personal
belongings.
Check
Water-Each camper should bring plenty of fluids to last throughout the
day. Fluids are of dire necessity and can be an active deterrent to
dehydration.
Snack-Campers need to bring their own snack if they wish to have one.
Snack time is from 3:45 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Clothing-Campers will need to wear suitable clothes; t-shirts, shorts, etc.
Campers must wear enclosed shoes with socks...NO SANDALS! Please
have all of their clothes and other personal belongings marked clearly with
their name on each item.
**Caps, hats, etc. are encouraged to block the sun.
Swimming-A swimsuit (one piece for females), towel and sunscreen are
needed. If for some reason, your child cannot swim, please send a note
with your child. A swim test will be conducted each session. Sunscreen is
also encouraged to be used throughout the day!
Camp Shirt-Campers are encouraged to wear their camp shirts on
Mondays and Fridays. It is required that campers wear their camp t-shirts
on field trips.
We discourage the following:
• Money at camp (the only time they may need money will be on field trip days)
• Borrowing personal items from others (we hope this will reduce the possibility of head lice)
• Jewelry (avoid the possibility of losing valuable items)
• Electronic Games (avoid the possibility of losing valuable items)

Summer Day Camp Fees
A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required per session, per child to hold space.
Resident Fees:
$190.00 per two week session
$171.00 discounted fee (Session III)
$160.00 per additional child
$141.00 per add’l child (Session III)

Campers are limited to a maximum of five sessions for the summer. There will be no discounts
for ½ sessions (one week).
IMPORTANT:
Deadline to pay the balance of session will be due seven days prior to start of session.
Deadline dates are as follows:
Session I May 27
Session II June 10
Session III June 24
Session IV July 8
Session V July 22
Session VI August 5
Failure to pay by deadline
Will result in losing your child’s space in that session!
Deposits will not be refunded or transferred to another session.

For Your Information about Camp
Absences: If at all possible, please call 281-996-3220 between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. if your child
will not be attending camp on a given morning.
Illness/Injury: If a child becomes ill or hurt at camp, parents will be notified and the appropriate
course of action will be determined. In the event your child is known to have contracted a contagious
illness or infection, please notify the Community Services Department so we may inform the parents
of other campers so that necessary precautions can be taken.
Medications: All medications to be taken by camp participants must be delivered to the camp
director on the first day of each session with written instructions for proper dosage and a schedule of
distribution times.
Disciplinary Action
We will be using assertive discipline in which positive reinforcement will be of top priority. Camp
rules and consequences will be clearly posted and discussed in detail every Monday and reviewed
throughout the week as needed. Children will be consistently rewarded for good behavior through
the use of verbal praises, smiles, awards, stickers, popcorn parties, prizes, etc.
Those who choose to break a rule will be subject to the appropriate consequences. Consequences
will consist of either major or minor offenses. Depending on offense, a conference with counselor,
director, assistant camp director and/or Recreation Coordinator will be conducted.
Please discuss the following rules and consequences with your child. Please be aware that continued
and/or severe discipline problems will result in suspension from camp.
General Rules
1. Follow all directions the first time given.
2. Respect your director, counselors and fellow campers.
3. Use nice words and speak for yourself.
4. Always clean up your own area.
5. NO fighting.
6. If you CAN’T see a counselor, senior camp counselor or director, you are in the WRONG place.
7. Participate in all activities.
8. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
The City of Friendswood Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to make any
exceptions to the rules that govern the Summer Day Camp.

We will operate on a color system with yellow being a warning and red being a phone call and notice
to the parent or legal guardian.
Major offenses would include but are not limited to: cussing, obscene gestures, destruction of
property, extreme inappropriate behavior, etc.
Minor offenses would include but are not limited to talking in a disruptive manner when one
should to be listening, not cleaning up their area after eating, etc.
*Counselor will use his/her judgment in the action taken for minor offenses. Consultation and
involvement with Camp Director and/or Assistant Camp Director and/or Recreation Coordinator for
major offenses. If you child is suspended from camp, your fees are not refundable.
Note: Parents will be contacted on Major offenses and notified prior to disciplinary action.
*Continued violation of minor offenses will result in a disciplinary letter sent to parent.
