THE SACRED TRIDUUM
The most sacred moments of the entire
Liturgical Year will be celebrated this week under
the title “The Sacred Triduum” (Latin for “three
days”) The violet of Lent is put aside as Holy
Thursday calls for white, Good Friday for red and
Easter for the color of the glorious Resurrection.
These three days celebrate the salvific days of
Jesus’ triumphant over death through the
Resurrection; but they also celebrate what is
happening right now among us as the People of
God. All parishioners, and Catholics throughout
the world, are urged to join us for three days of
wondrous liturgical celebrations as our Parish
Family comes to the apex of the Liturgical Year.
HOLY THURSDAY: THE LAST SUPPER
The celebration of the Lord’s Supper will
begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening with the
accent upon the Blessed Sacrament. After the liturgy,
the sacred species will be placed in the area of
reposition for private adoration. The church will
remain open until 12:00 midnight for those who wish
to come and “keep watch with Jesus.”
GOOD FRIDAY: THE DEATH OF JESUS
We are asked to return to the church on Good
Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. as we commemorate the
suffering and death of the Lord Jesus. The tri-part
celebration includes the Liturgy of the Word, the
veneration of the Cross and the reception of the
Eucharist from the consecrated species of the previous
night. The church will be closed 30 minutes after the
service to decorate for Easter.
12:00 NOON TO 3:00 P.M. FRIDAY
For those who would like to keep the 3 hour
vigil from noon to three in church in commemoration
of Jesus’ hanging of the cross, we will begin at noon
with a reflection on the mystery of the Cross that will
lead into the service beginning at 1:30 p.m.
EASTER VIGIL: THE RESURRECTION
The Easter Vigil will begin at 8:30 p.m. on
Saturday evening and calls for all of us to be present
to announce the Alleluia of the Resurrection. The
four-part liturgical celebration is the high point of the
entire Liturgical Year and beckons to all of us to join
the Community of Faith in proclaiming this central
mystery of our lives in Christ.
IMPORTANT HOLY WEEK NOTICE
There will be a 1:00 p.m. liturgy added to our
Easter Sunday schedule along with the regular times
of 7:30, 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Parishioners who wish
to avoid the great crowds of the three earlier liturgies
may choose to participate at this one o’clock liturgy.
The Blessing of Baskets will take place at 12:00
noon on Holy Saturday. All families are invited to
gather in church at that time for this ancient custom
of preparing for the Resurrection.
There will be a collection on Good Friday as
prescribed by the Diocese. There is an envelope in
our packet for this collection, all of which goes to
maintaining the sacred places of the Holy Land.
There will be no confessions scheduled during
Holy Week. A person who wishes to celebrate
Reconciliation may simply call the rectory to make
an appointment with one of the priests.
The Holy Thursday Church Visit tradition will
begin immediately after the services that evening.
Those wishing to travel with the group should call
412-486-5521 to make reservations.
Today is the final day to submit names for the
Easter Flower Memorial. There is an envelope
included in our packet for this purpose. We ask a
donation of five dollars with each name submitted.
Please print clearly on the envelope the name(s) of
each person to be memorialized.
Parking for church services during this week
becomes a significant issue because of the great
crowds. Vehicles parked in “no parking” zones on
our grounds might be towed ---which will then come
at the owner’s expense.
There are TWO envelopes in our packet for next
Sunday’s great day of Easter --- one for the regular
Sunday collection (FIRST collection next week) and
the other especially for Easter (SECOND collection
next week). All parishioners are asked to use BOTH
envelopes on Easter Sunday.
All members of the Extended Staff are invited to
our traditional appreciation event that will take place
on April 15 th . Festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. in
Marian Hall. An evening meal will be included in
the event for those in attendance.

All families with children age five and under are welcome to join
us on the first and third Wednesday of the month for PRAY and
PLAY DAY. We will not meet this Wednesday, April 4 th because
it is Holy Week but we hope you can join us on Holy Saturday,
April 7 th at 10:30am for the Family Blessing in church before the

EASTER EGG HUNT
Reservations for the Holy Saturday Egg Hunt must be made
immediately. All families with children under age 10 are invited to
participate in this annual event beginning with the blessing of
families in church at 10:30am on April 7 th . Afterwards, all will
search for eggs on the parish grounds, weather permitting. Marian
Hall is the alternative. We welcome donations of plastic eggs and

TRAVEL PLANS - St. Mary’s bus will leave from the lower parking

admission tickets on Saturday morning as they board the bus. The day
will end with an anticipated Sunday Mass at 4:00pm. Bishop David
Zubik is the presider and homilist. The bus will leave immediately

Faith Sharing for Passion/Palm Sunday, April 1st
People of the Passion, Listen well to the gospel of Mark and
enter into Jesus’ willingness to obey the Father’s will and give
His life for our sakes. Are you willing to walk the road of the
cross with Him? Name the cross(es) you have in your own life
and be extra fervent in asking Jesus’ help with it. How willing
are you to help another carry a cross which may look like
carrying groceries, taking a meal to a shut-in, cleaning an elder
neighbor’s yard, or other works of mercy.

Divine Mercy Novena begins on Good Friday. Copies of the
novena prayers are available at the pamphlet rack along the
back of our church.
Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos was a Redemptorist priest who
served in our diocese, and at times in our parish and
surrounding parishes, in the 1850's. A newly published "Way of
the Cross with Francis Xavier Seelos" is available on our
pamphlet rack for those interested.

St. Mary School News
REGISTRATION
St. Mary School is now accepng registraons for any family
who might be interested in receiving a faith-filled, valuecentered,
quality educaon for their child(ren.) You will need to
provide a birth cerficate, a bapsmal cerficate, and the Social
Security number for each child registered.
We provide a 3 and 4 year-old preschool program in addion to
our kindergarten through 8th grades, the St. Anthony School
Program, an Aerschool Program for working parents, and
financial assistance for families in need.

BUS PILGRIMAGE … free to parishioners who will heed
Jesus' call to "watch with me" after the April 5, Holy Thursday
Liturgy at 7 PM. We will board the bus to go to spend brief
periods of adoration at six other churches. Each visit will recount
the scripture stories of the places to which Jesus was taken after
his capture in the garden of Gethsemane. We return to St. Mary's

NOVENA FOR A REVERSAL
OF THE Health & Human Services MANDATE:
Lord God, You are the Author of Life and Freedom. In Your
Spirit, we have the freedom of the children of God, and in Your
Name, we promote the freedom of all to seek, embrace, and live
the truth of Your Word. In that freedom, Lord, we your people
stand with Life and reject whatever destroys life or distorts the
meaning of human sexuality. In that freedom, Lord, we Your
people live our lives in a way that advances Your Kingdom of
Life, and we refuse to cooperate in what is evil. At this moment,
we pray for the grace to be faithful to You and to oppose the
unjust laws and mandates that have been imposed upon us and
our institutions. We pray for the conversion of those in civil
authority who fail to appreciate the demands of conscience. We
pray for the complete reversal of all policies that permit the
destruction of life or coerce the cooperation of Your people in
practices that are wrong. Bring us to a Culture of Life, we pray

CAMP ERIN & CAMP GOOD SAM
One in five children will experience the death of a family member or
close friend before they graduate from high school. Camp Erin and
Camp Good Sam are three-day fun-filled, overnight camps coupled
with grief education and emotional support for children and teens.

In the backward movement of the pendulum, can you visualize the events of the first “holy week”
when the Savior of the world ate at a final supper, died on the Golgotha cross and rose from the empty tomb?
Come, join us for the services in church during the sacred days of this current HOLY WEEK and we will
relive these experiences with you in the magnificent celebrations of our Catholic liturgy. However, maybe
your sight goes back only 178 years ago to the early days of our Parish Family when Spirit-filled parishioners
wanted to recapture the events of the first “holy week” by forming a FAITH COMMUNITY. Intrinsic to that
experience was their vision to erect a church building on this land, as a sign to all those who traveled by that
the salvific events of the Lord Jesus’ first “holy week” could always be experienced on these sacred grounds.
On the other hand, in the forward movement of the pendulum, how far can you see into the future
where the events of the first “holy week” will one day be relived as the promise of the eternal kingdom?
Come, join us for the services during the sacred days of this current HOLY WEEK and we will relive these
experiences with you in the magnificent celebrations of our Catholic liturgy. However, maybe your sight
goes forward only to the immediate days of this earth that lie before us in the witnessing of our faith on these
sacred grounds. Like those many parishioners who have come before us, we too wish to manifest to all those
who travel by in the conveniences of a modern day vehicle that the salvation promised by the Lord Jesus can
still be experienced on the sacred grounds of our Parish Family.
All of us --- those who came before, those who are here now and those who will come in the future –
are all in the process of building a CHURCH! This church is formed as each one of us offers self to help
build small “Communities Of Faith” which attempt to proclaim the Gospel that goes way beyond the vision of
this world. Our church building has always stood as a sign of the pride we have in celebrating the events of
HOLY WEEK! Come, join us for the services during the sacred days of this current HOLY WEEK and we
