Kirkby children
The 10-year-olds from Kirkby C of E
Primary School were at Kirkby Civic
Suite during the four-day Hindu
festival of Durga Puja, organised by
the Merseyside Bengali Association.
The youngsters learned about the
goddess Durga then joined worshippers
preparing fruit for offerings, tried out
their skills on the traditional Dhak
drums and even lent a hand in the
kitchens, where Indian chefs were
preparing a spicy feast.
Knowsley Council Leader, Ron Round,
said, “The borough has a great history
L-R: Rishi Banergee, Heather Fitzpatrick and
Isabella McKenna help prepare the curry dish
of welcoming people from different
backgrounds, and this was a tremendous
opportunity to learn about the culture of
the Bengali community.”
In your neighbourhood
A wealth of information about your
community can now be found on the
Knowsley Council website.
A new section of the site called ‘Your
Neighbourhood’ has been launched
to provide a wide range of useful
information about local communities
across the borough.
As well as details of local residents
groups and associations, community
centres and alleygate schemes, the site
includes dedicated pages for the six
neighbourhood management teams.
Each of these pages provides an
overview of the local area and
information about local councillors,
community safety information and a
‘what’s on in your local area’ section.
Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for
Neighbourhood Delivery, Cllr Graham
Morgan, said, “This section on the website
will make it much easier for residents to
find so much useful information about
their local communities.”
