Windtex blows away the<br />
competition<br />
Kirkby based Windtex Limited service and maintain wind<br />
turbines in the UK and overseas.<br />
Expert technicians work in extreme<br />
conditions with trained abseilers,<br />
handling difficult heights and<br />
access problems.<br />
Directors, Brad Hickman and Phil Turner,<br />
received support and funding from<br />
<strong>Knowsley</strong> <strong>Council</strong>’s Fresh Start project<br />
and ELECT to help them successfully bid<br />
for a NWDA small business loan fund.<br />
Brad and Phil said,<br />

Attila Olah works for Merseyside’s Glacier<br />
Art making ice sculptures for events and<br />
bars. He describes his apprenticeship as<br />
“the greatest achievement of my life”.<br />
Their company now employs eight<br />
people including three local people<br />
from Kirkby.<br />

Cool job for creative Attila<br />
A trainee ice sculptor is one of 100 recruits in this year’s<br />
<strong>Knowsley</strong> Apprentice programme.<br />

Regeneration, Economy and Skills,<br />

young people who have proven<br />
themselves to be hungry for work<br />
and new opportunities, and it’s<br />

Jaguar Land Rover<br />
trainees<br />
New recruits have started work at<br />
Jaguar Land Rover in Halewood.<br />
120 trainees will join production teams,<br />
gaining invaluable experience of<br />
manufacturing processes and working<br />
towards an NVQ Level 2 qualification in<br />
Manufacturing Processes.<br />
When the six-month programme is<br />
completed, the trainees will potentially<br />
secure longer term employment.<br />
The placements were created with funding<br />
through the Future Jobs Fund.<br />
Cllr Dave Lonergan, <strong>Knowsley</strong> <strong>Council</strong>’s<br />
Cabinet Member for Regeneration,<br />
Economy and Skills, said, “Only with the<br />
support and funding of the Future Jobs<br />
Fund has it been possible to get so many<br />
people into work with such a prestigious<br />
organisation like Jaguar Land Rover.<br />
The Jaguar programme will provide 120<br />
people with an opportunity that might<br />
otherwise have passed them by.”<br />
