LIFE ON BOARD
Our ships are large enough to be spacious,
comfortable and uncrowded, but still small
enough to be the kind of place where you
can feel relaxed and able to put your feet up.
The size advantage means we can take you
to places that some of the mammoth cruise
ships can’t, close to the heart of some of the
world’s most beautiful cities and
breathtaking landscapes. Just sit back,
relax and let us present the world for your
pleasure.
Our experienced, friendly crew help to create
a warmer, friendlier atmosphere and they all
want you to have a holiday to remember.
They know that it’s the little things that
make the difference, like the smiling barman
who remembers your name – and your
favourite tipple. That’s why last year more
than half our guests had travelled with us
before. If you’re new to cruising, you’re sure
to be impressed by the great welcome.
WHAT TO PACK FOR YOUR HOLIDAY
Most evenings on board are smart casual with a few formal nights for
the chance to dress up too. Depending on the length of your holiday
there will be one or more formal evenings whilst you are on board.
Although Fred. Olsen ships also feature a casual dining restaurant for
those guests who prefer not to join the formal evenings. Dress code
for these restaurants is smart casual every evening.
Most evenings during your cruise holiday will be smart casual, so you
can feel relaxed and comfortable whilst enjoying your dinner. For
men, a pair of trousers, chinos or smart (dark) jeans, coupled with a
polo shirt or shirt is absolutely fine. Some guests prefer to wear a
jacket or tie. Ladies’ dress can range from tailored trouser suits and
stylish dresses to casual separates and summer dresses. The choice
is yours.
Casual wear is perfectly acceptable in the daytime, with many guests
opting for shorts and a T-shirt or polo shirt while holidaying in sunny
climes, and a pair of light-weight trousers and a sweater or jacket for
cooler daytime temperatures.
FAMILIES WELCOME
We welcome families on board and we offer discounts for adults and children sharing
together in a room for three or four. These discounts should be deducted from adult prices
in this brochure.
4 th Share 70% 35%
✝
Fly-cruise holidays are those which feature either an outward or return flight or both.
For infants under two requiring an airline seat or bed on board, the standard price will apply.
THE CHOICE IS ALL YOURS
A Fred. Olsen holiday is all about exploring new places and meeting
new people. As you arrive at a new destination you have the choice of
how you spend your day. Shore Tours are available to help you see the
best of a place, or if you would prefer, you can explore independently,
giving you the chance to take in the many sights at your own pace.
We offer a range of half and full-day tours in almost all destinations
through professional local companies, many of which we’ve worked
with for years. Whether you want to explore the cathedral a port is
famous for, sample the local tipple, or go for the full adventure with
a helicopter or off-road 4x4 ride, we make sure you have the best
choice. There’s always an English speaking guide on our tours and
often a Fred. Olsen staff member as well. It’s an extension of the
warm service you’ll receive on board. Please note, Shore Tours are
an additional cost to your cruise price.
NEW DESTINATIONS AND SEA VIEWS
Every day you’ll wake up to the balmy blue ocean, or an exciting new
destination; somewhere new to explore and see the sights. You’ll
never have enjoyed so much variety in one holiday before. You’ll get
so much more from your trip, with the chance to discover different
capital cities, pretty islands, sleepy villages or inspirational landscapes.
It’s all packed into one great holiday – and with the convenience of
only unpacking once.
At Fred. Olsen, we know that dining is one of the experiences that make your holiday such
a pleasure. This is why our team of expert chefs painstakingly plan sumptuous menus of
carefully prepared meals, designed to make your mouth water.
Every day our menus are something special, with dishes varying from appetisers such as herb
Of course, we always have options for vegetarians and healthy choices too, with an emphasis
on fish dishes inspired by our Norwegian heritage: so even if you’re watching your diet, you’re
SMALL BUT SPACIOUS
The smaller scale of our ships doesn’t mean
less room. Each bedroom has ample space,
with an en suite bathroom and all the
facilities you’ll need to enjoy your holiday
in comfort.
In fact, our rooms are comparable in size to
those on some of the mammoth cruise ships.
With less people on board, it’s easy to find a
quiet spot to enjoy a peaceful drink or
undisturbed read, stretch out by the pool
and get ashore quicker – without the need to
fight for space with thousands of people.
YOUR CHOICE OF ROOMS
When it comes to choosing accommodation,
there’s a range of different options, so you
can pick what suits you best. Interior Rooms
are usually at the lowest prices. They are
ideal for those who prefer to spend more
time out and about and less time in their
cabin. A Standard Ocean View Room is great
if you want to throw back the curtain and
see the arrival into a new destination or
admire the beautiful blue seas through your
window or porthole. For a special experience,
a Suite allows you to indulge in a little more
relaxation and space with a private place
to unwind.
AWARD-WINNING HOLIDAYS
We were very proud to have scored 86%, and
second place, in the Which? 2013 Cruise
Survey, beating many larger cruise
companies. The high score was achieved by a
combination of overall satisfaction and how
likely people were to recommend Fred. Olsen
to a friend. Along with the second place, the
report concluded that Fred. Olsen is, “wellsuited
to people who want to avoid oceangoing
giants”.
Other recent successes included being
awarded Best Value for Money in the 2013
Cruise Critic UK Editors’ Picks Awards for the
second consecutive year. We were also
delighted to have been voted Best Affordable
Cruise Line by readers of Cruise International
magazine for the second year running, along
with being highly commended in the Best
Cruise Line category.
It means a lot to us that the efforts of our
staff and crew are recognised by so many
people. And it makes us want to try even
harder.
Caribbean,
Amazon &
the Americas
The thought of the Caribbean
conjures up images of stretches of
white sand, swaying palm trees,
rum cocktails, bustling towns and
friendly locals – and that’s exactly
what will greet you as you arrive
in this tropical paradise.
These blissful islands offer gorgeous beaches,
fascinating, if turbulent, history and a laid-back
culture that’s a pleasure to experience. There’s the
option to sail from Southampton, or get straight to
the sun with a fly-cruise. You can choose to arrange
your own travel to and from the ship, perhaps
spending a few days on land before or after your
cruise, or book a flight with Fred. Olsen so that you
can rest assured that everything is taken care of,
including transfers and bonded luggage*.
For something a little more adventurous, take
an epic voyage to Canada and the USA, taking in the
spectacular scenery of the Eastern Seaboard, at a
time of year when the fall should be at its absolute
best. After the bright lights of Boston and New York,
you’ll leave behind a coastline packed with
wonderful destinations, keeping with you
memories you’ll never forget.
For something really exotic, seek out rare
wildlife, indigenous tribes and dense rainforest on
a voyage along the Amazon. The largest tropical
rainforest on earth, Amazonia encompasses seven
million square kilometres throughout South
America. A cruise to this fascinating region will give
you a unique insight into this great wilderness.
This Caribbean holiday with a difference takes in a selection of stunning islands, along
with calls into Panama and Colombia. Spend the first part of this wonderful twoweek
holiday island-hopping between Caribbean gems. Visit the ‘spice island’ of
Grenada; relax on Aruba’s jaw-dropping beaches; and snorkel the colourful reefs and
crystal clear waters of Bonaire. There’s an overnight stay in the city of Colon, where tours
to the world-famous Panama Canal are a must. A visit to Colombia follows, where you’ll
experience vibrant culture, colourful cities and diversity.
Castries, St. Lucia
Dominated by the soaring twin Pitons,
St. Lucia plays host to Soufriere, a bubbling,
wheezing volcano crater, and a series of
beautiful botanical gardens. Visit the
gorgeous beaches, such as Rodney Bay,
surrounded by secluded coves and rocky islets.
St. George’s, Grenada
Grenada boasts 45 pristine beaches and
numerous secluded coves waiting to be
discovered. Known as the ‘Spice Island’, an
aromatic blend of nutmeg, cinnamon,
cloves, ginger and vanilla fills the air. The
island is of volcanic origin, with a landscape
of crater lakes, rainforests, coral reefs and
white-sand beaches.
Kralendijk, Bonaire MUST EXPLORE
Bonaire’s capital, Kralendijk, lines one of the
island’s many beaches with lovely stucco
houses, in pastel shades of pink, green and
blue. Visit the Washington Slagbaai National
Park, home to flamingos, iguanas and giant
cacti, or take a water taxi to the nearby
uninhabited island of Klein Bonaire, to relax
on the gorgeous white-sand beach.
Oranjestad, Aruba
Oranjestad’s Dutch colonial heritage can be
seen in the vividly coloured buildings which
line the waterfront and mirror those in
Amsterdam. Visit the island’s Butterfly Farm,
see the Natural Bridge of Aruba – carved
from solid coral by the relentless pounding
Cartagena de Indias, Colombia
of the surf – or simply relax on the pristine
white sandy beaches.
Colón, Panama
MUST EXPLORE
Colón was at the end of the Panama Railroad,
which was built to provide a fast route to
California and the gold rush. Outside the city
are the canal’s impressive Gatún Locks and
Gatún Dam. About half an hour away is the
Fort San Lorenzo; it’s a well-preserved
reminder of when this was at the heart
of the Spanish Main.
Cartagena de Indias, MUST EXPLORE
Colombia
The beguiling city of Cartagena positively
flaunts its Spanish heritage in the Plaza Santo
Domingo, Palacio de la Inquisicion, and the
16 th century cathedral. Relax at one of the
city’s many open-air cafés, perfect for
watching the parade of fashionable locals
and classic horse-drawn carriages.
I have taken three cruises with
Fred. Olsen to the Caribbean
and each one has been excellent.
Santa Marta, Colombia
Located in northern Colombia by the
Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Nevada de
Santa Marta mountains, Santa Marta is
home to Spanish Colonial buildings and
modern, luxury beach front apartments –
showing the great contrast between the
past and the future.
Willemstad, Curaçao
Curacao’s Dutch-influenced capital,
Willemstad, is known as ‘Amsterdam in
independent customer reviews
the sun’. The narrow-gabled, 18 th century
houses painted with cool pastel shades
juxtaposed with intense yellows and royal
blues give meaning to the nickname.
Discover the bustling waterfront, open-air
market, the steam-powered Queen Emma
pontoon bridge and the aquarium.
and still retains a surreal, beguiling charm.
Havana, Cuba
With sun-drenched beaches and clear,
turquoise sea, Grand Turk is a haven for those
wishing to swim or snorkel the reefs, or those
the historic centre of the island, a sleepy place
where donkeys still wander round the streets.
some of the oldest buildings in the Caribbean.
Take a tour to Brimstone Hill Fortress to
admire magnificent views across the island,
visit the beautiful Romney Manor Gardens, or
relax on one of the tranquil beaches.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
Tortola
Havana, Cuba
studded with colourful clapboard restaurants
and outdoor cafés.
St. John’s, Antigua
The great bay of stunning English Harbour
and historic Malta.
Every destination has its own unique character
to be revealed. In contrast to Istanbul’s remarkable
skyline, punctuated with minarets and grand
domes, Gibraltar proudly displays its imposing
‘rock’, the iconic image of this unusual, sun-tinged,
British territory; and while Athens is the place to go
for historic monuments, Tangier’s souk-lined,
colourful streets offer a buzzing atmosphere not to
be missed. Our ‘Film Stars and Fast Cars’ itinerary is
perfectly timed to be in Cannes for the star-studded
Film Festival and Nice at the time of the Grand Prix
– a cruise experience like no other!
Closer to home, a voyage around the UK can
showcase just how diverse, fascinating and
beautiful our homeland is; from the Orkney Isles’
rugged and dramatic cliffs to Dublin’s sociable
atmosphere. Perhaps it’s no surprise that our
summertime ‘Around the UK’ sailing was our best
With variety and attractions in abundance,
whichever sailing you chose, you’re sure to create
Cruise Kiel Canal
Fri 12
Cruising
Sat 13 AM Dover
Enjoy overnight stays in three fabulous ports – Copenhagen, Tallinn and
St. Petersburg – along with a day in Helsinki and daytime transit of Europe’s busiest
waterway, the Kiel Canal. In the Danish capital, see the famous statue of the Little
Mermaid and photogenic Nyhavn, a fantastic spot to grab some dinner perhaps; absorb
the beautiful neo-classical architecture in Helsinki; and discover Tallinn’s picturesque old
town. St. Petersburg gives you a choice of over 100 museums, as well as ornate churches,
grand mansions and fine shops. With extended calls in three cities, there’s ample time to
really get under the skin of these top Baltic destinations.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen has something for everyone.
Explore the beautiful, historic setting of
Christiansborg Palace, the colourful
pavement cafés and pedestrian streets of
Strøget, the fun-filled Tivoli Gardens and
pretty Nyhavn, with its buzzing quayside
restaurants and bars. Don’t forget to look
out for the famous statue of the Little
Mermaid too!
Tallinn, Estonia
MUST EXPLORE
Made up of medieval town walls, cobbled
streets, picturesque churches and towers and
an enchanting UNESCO-listed Old Town, the
Estonian capital, Tallinn, provides a beautiful
fairytale setting. This ancient Hanseatic city
has many attractions, including the ornate
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the baroque
Kadriorg Palace and Toompea Castle.
St. Petersburg, Russia MUST EXPLORE
Rated as one of the best destinations in the
world by our guests, St. Petersburg is a
treasure trove of gold-clad domes, striking
cathedrals, elegant streets and curving canals.
An overnight stay gives you plenty of time to
discover the city’s highlights, including the
Hermitage Museum, Peterhof Palace and the
main street, Nevsky Prospekt. There’s also the
chance to spend an evening at the ballet – a
must for any visit to Russia.
Helsinki, Finland
The compact Finnish capital, Helsinki, has
intriguing contrasts; from handsome and
imposing neo-classical buildings and
museums, to lively shopping esplanades
and the colourful Kauppatori produce and
craft market. Don’t miss a photo stop at
Senate Square’s elegant Lutheran Cathedral.
This wonderful springtime escape takes you to three contrasting European cities.
What’s more, each call is for an overnight stay, so you can take time to really
explore these fantastic destinations. Take a full-day trip to romantic Paris where
you can discover the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame Cathedral. Enjoy the
engaging atmosphere of springtime Amsterdam and spacious and leafy Hamburg. This
sometimes overlooked German city is a flourishing commercial dynamo of stylish shops,
excellent restaurants and legendary nightlife.
Cruising the Seine
Sailing along the River Seine is an experience
itself. This beautiful waterway showcases
close-up views of the landscapes of rural
France, speckled with pretty houses.
Paris (from Rouen), France
Reached by a sailing along the Seine, Rouen
is rich in monuments and museums, with
narrow pedestrianised streets lined by tall,
half-timbered houses. Explore this beautiful
city or take a tour to Paris and visit some of
the many famous landmarks.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam offers a wealth of attractions,
from almost 40 museums to canal-side bars,
chic boutiques and antiquarian bookshops.
Take a trip to the windmill village of Zaanse
Schans, visit Anne Frank’s house or explore
the abundance of art galleries in the Museum
Quarter, boasting works by the likes of Van
Gogh, Rembrandt and Picasso.
Hamburg, Germany MUST EXPLORE
On the River Elbe, 70 miles from the North
Sea, Hamburg was founded by Charlemagne.
It boasts a Hanseatic League heritage harking
back 700 years. Cherishing its long historic
and cultural traditions, today’s spacious and
BEFORE BOOKING
Norwegian heritage, Norwegian
officers and smaller ships mean
we can show you Norway like
no-one else.
Sailing along a seemingly endless fjord – framed by
sheer cliffs, glaciers and glistening waterfalls – is a
humbling experience, whether it’s your first time
or your hundredth: the splendour of nature is
overpowering. You feel you can almost reach out
and touch the sides. Better still, you can enjoy this
inspirational experience from the comfort of your
ship, with the knowledge that this is the prelude to
your next port of call. Without doubt, the journey is
as rewarding as the destination.
Norway is home to some of the most famous,
longest and most impressive fjords in the world.
They bring thousands of visitors every year yet,
conversely, sailing these tranquil and enchanting
waterways can make you feel there’s no-one else
on the planet.
Pretty chocolate box towns lie in wait along the
country’s beautiful coast – bursting with unique
culture, colourful meadows, charming architecture
and wildlife, all for your exploration.
Famously managed by a Norwegian family and
with Norwegian officers on board all our ships,
we’ve made full use of this knowledge and
expertise, ensuring our Norway itineraries feature
more scenic fjord cruising than ever before. Your
camera will be just as busy on sea days as it will be
in port.
Our traditional ships are ideal for navigating this
picturesque region: their smaller size allows us to
take you further into the fjords (some as narrow as
500 metres wide), getting you closer to your
destination. Bigger cruise ships sail directly into port
then straight back out to sea. We can take you
between your destinations by cruising through the
fjords, revealing them in all their splendour. It’s a
totally different experience. What better way to
enjoy all this wonderful region has to offer, than on
a Fred. Olsen cruise?
idyllic farms clinging to the mountainsides.
Olden, Nordfjord, Norway
The charming village of Olden is set amongst
green meadows – ablaze with colourful
flowers throughout the summer – and
houses. It’s the gateway to the Jostedalen
Glacier and the famous glacier arm, Briksdal,
