Diesel engines
Powerful, efficient and clean: the latest Mercedes-Benz diesel technology in the new CLA. Two units impress by delivering high pulling power and performance with low
emission and fuel consumption figures
The CLA 220 CDI attains its maximum torque of 350 Nm from just 1400 rpm
4-cylinder in-line engines. The up-to-the-minute technology
of the 4-cylinder diesel engines is reflected in their hefty
torque and excellent responsiveness, even in the lower
engine speed range. At the same time, as well as being
models of restraint when it comes to fuel consumption
and emissions, the engines impress with their low noise
level and smooth running characteristics.
Two power outputs are available to choose from in the form
of the CLA 200 CDI with 100 kW (136 hp) and a maximum
torque of 300 Nm, and as the CLA 220 CDI with 125 kW
(170 hp) and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. As the fourth
generation of common-rail diesel technology both boast
an injection pressure increased to 1800 bar, optimised
combustion chambers plus precise solenoid injectors. The
high ignition pressure and a turbocharger with variable nozzle
turbine ensure an effortlessly superior torque curve and
corresponding pulling power in every engine speed range.
Further efficiency measures. Both diesel drive systems
are equipped with the ECO start/stop function which
switches off the engine temporarily when the vehicle is
stationary. In addition to this it goes without saying that
they meet the requirements of the Euro 5 emission class.
The CLA 220 CDI with multiway exhaust gas recirculation
already complies with the requirements of the Euro 6
emission class. Even greater driving efficiency can be
achieved with the help of the standard-fit ECO display
which indicates how economically the vehicle is being driven
at any given moment. This information can be used to
adopt a driving style which provides for optimum fuel
consumption in the current driving situation.
