Five years ago michael neugebauer edition was newly founded after the publisher Michael<br />

Neugebauer ended his affiliation with the Swiss Nord Süd Publishing. Successful on all five continents,<br />

today’s publishing structure is well positioned internationally.<br />

The headquarters for Michael Neugebauer Publishing Ltd. is located in Hong Kong where Michael<br />

Neugebauer serves as Director of Publishing and works as an editor and designer of all <strong>minedition</strong><br />

books.<br />

The question is often asked how it is possible for this publishing entity to be so strong and uniquely<br />

positioned in the business of licensing. The answer is easy.<br />

The name Neugebauer has always stood for the highest artistic quality and our partners share the<br />

same dedication to excellence.<br />

The publishing headquarters for the German speaking countries is located in northern Germany with<br />

distribution through the Egmont Publishing Group in Cologne. Minedition France, established in 2007,<br />

is based in Paris and <strong>minedition</strong> rights and licences are handled from our Zurich, Switzerland office.<br />

The international production functions as the imprint <strong>minedition</strong> and is a “package” with numerous<br />

for lifetime achievement in the area of literature for children and youth and is called the little Nobel<br />

Prague School of Applied Arts,<br />

where she studied Czech modernism<br />

work merges the aesthetic traditions<br />

with influences from<br />

creates collages in which she<br />

experiments with the links<br />

between image and text.<br />

In addition to illustrating nearly<br />

sixty books, Ms. Pacovská has<br />

held numerous one-women<br />

shows and regularly takes part<br />

in international art exhibitions.<br />

Fittingly, she received the Hans<br />

Christian Andersen Medal for<br />

children’s book illustration in<br />

1992.<br />

An acting troupe performs a special show for the moon when she comes<br />

down for a visit. Features split pages that can be flipped to combine different<br />

characters and costumes.<br />

For those inclined to muse on the secret life of the moon (``Where is the moon<br />

when he is not in the sky?'') this unusual picture book offers a romantic<br />

answer: at the theater. One night, while the actors are sleeping, the clown<br />

sees a sliver of moonlight across the theater floor. Inspired, he climbs up to<br />

the moon and invites the moon to visit their stage. ``The moon sits in the theater<br />

and his gentle light spills onto the stage. One by one the players wake<br />

up.'' And so the midnight play begins. Pacovsk's (The Flower King) avantgarde<br />

artwork (sophisticated, clownish figures with bulging eyes and bright<br />

red noses) is enhanced by fancy paper engineering. The moon is cut out<br />

from the cover and first few pages, creating a window into the book; and a<br />

die-cut moon is fastened to the book's spine by a length of twine, so that it<br />

can be inserted into any of the cut-out moon ``holes.'' The actors themselves<br />

are featured on tri-cut pages, so that heads, torsos and legs can be<br />

rearranged in various configurations. Absurd yet fun; the high price tag, however,<br />

works include bizarre collages, mirrors and superimpositions<br />

of different kinds of paper, cut-outs<br />

capable of generating ever new characters and<br />

stories, as in the miniature theatre of Midnight Play.<br />

Her illustrations are immediately recognisable for<br />

the use of bold, saturated colours without nuances,<br />

a dense style and almost childlike use of lines.<br />

often based on the use of linguistic signs, as in<br />

Alphabet in which letters and numbers merge with<br />

Charles Perrault, an author and poet, living in 17th century France was a<br />

distinguished member of the Académie française. He was also embroiled in the<br />

famous literary battle between those favoring the literature of Antiquity and<br />

those who attempted to prove the superiority of modern literature of the time.<br />

He is probably best known, however, for his Tales of Mother Goose (Les Contes<br />

de ma Mère l'Oie) which brought him great popularity and marked the dawn of<br />

a new genre, the fairy tale. Little Red Cap, Cinderella, Tom Thumb, and<br />

Donkeyskin along with others brought a freshness, intelligence, and beauty to<br />

Design in Munster, where she<br />

received her degree in 2005.<br />

The contrasts between Grandpa’s reds and<br />

Grandma’s blues are striking and the whitewash<br />

backgrounds accentuate this. All the rooms<br />

depicted seem absolutely huge but not unbelievably<br />

so, as the story is told from the child narrator’s<br />

point of view. This vastness is reinforced by the fact<br />

that the book is composed entirely of doublepage<br />

spreads (with the exception of the title page<br />

and final page which is an illustrated epilogue).<br />

There are little things happening just shy of the<br />

main action in each scene, little things that make<br />

reading and re-reading with someone else so<br />

much fun. These tiny details also foreshadow the<br />

conclusion of the story which, though predictable,<br />

is still entirely satisfying.<br />

It’s so hard to play with other children when you’re<br />

shy, as one little boy can tell you. He hides under<br />

the table when his parents’ friends come over,<br />

and at school he’s too timid to make friends. But<br />

when he sees a mysterious girl who hides in the<br />

cherry tree every day after school, he wants to be<br />

brave enough to approach her. He gets himself a<br />

dog — the bravest dog he can find. And when his<br />

new pal takes a liking to the girl, the two become<br />

fast friends. She too is very bashful, but now they<br />

play together every day after school. Though her<br />

family will be moving away at the end of the year,<br />

they promise to keep meeting at the tree<br />

whenever it’s cherry time. Here is a beautiful,<br />

delicate story about learning to overcome your<br />

shyness and reach out to others.<br />

young artists, many of whom<br />

are famous worldwide today.<br />

In 2005 she retired from publishing<br />

and became an author.<br />

Ms. Sidjanski has five children<br />

and ten grandchildren. She<br />

lives near Zürich.<br />

The lights come up, the circus band begins to play, the ringmaster introduces<br />

happens. The clown and the donkey refuse to move. The ringmaster cracks<br />

his whip. But the clown says, “No!” He’s tired of playing the fool. Instead, he<br />

The sky over Berlin in November often as gray as the fur of the rat and the city seems even stonier than in other seasons.<br />

But in November 1989 the gray doesn’t matter to the Berliners at all. With the approaching end of East<br />

Germany the Berlin Wall opens and the people flow into the western part of the city. The rat feels their excitement.<br />

Many cry, others can not believe their luck, and some are afraid of what will come. But they all feel free, the artist<br />

and the rat too, for now they can leave their "island" of West Berlin.<br />

The rat is curious about what all these people are doing on the wall and what is on the other side. When the rat<br />

finds out there is no turning back.<br />

It smells different, the bits of leftover food taste different, the people do not care about the rat. No one? Yes,<br />

Christian takes the rat in the Katzengraben to Köpenick.<br />
