1. The student has m<strong>is</strong>sed no more than three days from that class.<br />

2. The student has no unexcused absences or truancy from that class.<br />

3. The student has no more than two unexcused tardies to that class.<br />

4. The student has no suspensions from school.<br />

5. A student may exempt 2 courses that meet the above requirements and have at least 80%<br />

in that course. An additional exemption will be given for a course with at least 90%.<br />

The following DO NOT count towards the three absences:<br />

1. Serving as a page in the state leg<strong>is</strong>lature<br />

2. Working for a precinct election board and/or as a helper to a political candidate on Election<br />

Day<br />

3. Following orders to report to active duty with the National Guard<br />

4. <strong>School</strong> sponsored field trips<br />

5. Court ordered appearances<br />

GRADING<br />

INCOMPLETES<br />

A student may receive an “I” for incomplete work. It <strong>is</strong> the responsibility of the student to complete<br />

all work to change an incomplete grade. If extenuating circumstances ex<strong>is</strong>t, parents/guardians<br />

should contact the school to work out a schedule for completing the work. All incomplete grades<br />

not properly completed shall become an automatic failure.<br />

INFORMATION NOW<br />

An Information Now grading program <strong>is</strong> available to monitor student grades on-line. Parents will<br />

receive username and password numbers to monitor, on a daily bas<strong>is</strong>, a student’s grades, progress,<br />

or problem areas.<br />

GRADE REPORTS<br />

Grade reports will be <strong>is</strong>sued at the close of each nine weeks. The semester grade <strong>is</strong> the grade of<br />

record used to compute grade point averages and class rankings. Report cards are normally d<strong>is</strong>tributed<br />

on the Friday after the end of each nine-week grading period.<br />

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS<br />

Students must complete a minimum of forty (40) required credits in order to graduate. To receive<br />

credit towards graduation from <strong>Gibson</strong> <strong><strong>South</strong>ern</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> for courses taken from other institutions<br />

(correspondence school, adult night school, etc. . .) approval must be requested from guidance.<br />

Only those students who have earned 38 credits will be authorized to participate in commencement<br />

ceremonies.<br />

EARLY DISMISSAL (SENIORS ONLY)<br />

Senior students who w<strong>is</strong>h to have shortened school days during their second semester must make<br />

a request in writing. The request must be presented to the principal by November 15 of the senior<br />

year.<br />

INDIANA DIPLOMAS AND CERTIFICATES<br />

Using the following criteria, <strong>Gibson</strong> <strong><strong>South</strong>ern</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> will award one of four different documents<br />

at commencement ceremonies.<br />
