I<br />
t's hard to believe, isn't it? As you read this, the school year<br />
is already off and running, and our students are rapidly<br />
settling into their junior year. This is a busy year, with attention<br />
beginning to focus more seriously on the journey beyond<br />
<strong>New</strong> <strong>Trier</strong>. Our students will be spending some time this year<br />
assessing their skills, determining their interests, and<br />
exploring their options for life after high school. We hope<br />
that your child will take some time to have fun, to try something<br />
new, and to celebrate the many accomplishments of the<br />
class of 2012 thus far.<br />

There are a number of events coming up soon for<br />
class of 2012 parents to note. The following is a<br />
quick list and description of those approaching<br />
(see sidebar calendars for more details.)<br />
Remember to consult the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Trier</strong> website, class<br />
of 2012 page, for updated programs during the<br />
school year.<br />
"Junior Year: Mission Possible" is the fall parent<br />
program for the Class of 2012. What makes<br />
junior year different at <strong>New</strong> <strong>Trier</strong>? How can you<br />
smooth the way for your student and you through<br />
the junior theme, the start of pre-college testing,<br />
the timetable for the post-high school planning<br />
process, etc.? A panel of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Trier</strong> experts will<br />
address these issues and your questions. This is<br />
the only school program for parents of juniors at<br />
the start of the school year. Presented by the<br />
NTPA Class of 2012 board; all parents are encouraged to<br />
attend. The program is not intended for students.<br />

PSAT<br />
<br />
Parents' Association Annual Homecoming Tailgate: Stop<br />
by the Parents' Association tent just south of the football field<br />
on September 24 from 7 p.m. through the first quarter for a<br />
bite to eat before the game! It's a great way to see your<br />
friends and cheer our players on! Food and refreshments are<br />
provided by the Parents' Association; a $5 donation is<br />
suggested.<br />
PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary<br />
SAT/National Merit<br />
Scholarship Qualifying Test):<br />
Registration for this test<br />
occurs in adviser room. The<br />
PSAT/NMSQT, taken nationwide<br />
by high school juniors,<br />
is a useful indicator of<br />

scholastic aptitude as well as<br />
the basis of some merit scholarships.<br />
Open Lunch: <strong>New</strong> <strong>Trier</strong> has a closed campus/open lunch<br />
policy. Juniors and seniors, with parental permission, may<br />
leave campus during their lunch period. (If they have two<br />
lunches, they are only allowed to leave for one lunch period.)<br />
To give their students permission to leave campus during lunch,<br />
parents must go to Room 200 in person to sign a permission<br />
form. Note - permission is for leaving on foot; they are not<br />
allowed in cars and will be suspended if they do enter one.<br />
NTPA Class of 2012 Board enjoys a get-together and cake walk last spring.<br />
Career Development Program: Did you know that careerplanning<br />
services are offered to all students at <strong>New</strong> <strong>Trier</strong>?<br />
The program provides students with counseling services, stepby-step<br />
self-analysis and career exploration designed to complement<br />
the work of each student's adviser and post-high<br />
school counselor. Interested juniors can stop by Room 230<br />
(adjacent to Post-<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Counseling) and visit with<br />
Career Development Coordinator Susan Thorngren.<br />
