HISTORY & BACKGROUND 

Nordic KidsWear AB was founded 2005 by two young mothers, Maria Forsberg and Camilla 

Pettersson, having their first babies and not finding proper outdoor clothing for their little ones for 

continuing to live their outdoor lifestyle. The idéa for the brand ”Nanook fo Sweden” was born. 

Nanoq means PolarBear in Greenlandish. The reason for choosing a bear for a logotype is 

rather common for children wear and since this specific business idéa was to create garments 

made to endure a tougher environment and climate, Maria and Camilla choose the Polarbear. 

The collection started with sizes in the range of 0-3 years, focusing most on next to skin and 

fleece garments , but expanded rapidly to the range of 0-8 years, including all necessary layers 

for dressing small babies and kids for being Outdoors. 

BUSINESS IDEA & FILOSOPHY 

Maria and Camilla wanted to bring a new perspective to the market on how to dress children for 

being outdoors. A child is a born “Multisporter by Nature”. They love being outdoors by Nature. 

But without proper clothing this joy will soon disappear and might never resurface again…not 

even as an adult. Since kids tend to be very active being outdoors and also sweats and freezes 

a lot easier than an adult, they are the ones in best need of ventilation and 100% wind- and 

water proofness. By providing a collection offering just that and in combination use sustainable 

technical materials of the highest quality, ÖKO-Tex licensed and with the use of re-cycled fibers 

– the concept of quality and sustainability were taken to a new level. The garments turned out to 

be lightweight, soft and flexible for the child to use. Parents having disabled children called and 

told them that finally they had found outdoor garments that their children actually could move in, 

being outdoors! Of course, as a parent you want to be convinced that your child will be dry, well 

temperatured and comfortable during the week day. This is key to endure being outdoors in a 

daycare center for example. All research and science tells us how important it is for childrens 

health to be outdoors. Bringing true functionality and product sustainability into the childrens 

wear market, is definitely a key success factor for Nanook of Sweden. 

SUCCESS STORY in SWEDEN and NORWAY 

The collection was detected by one of the biggest outdoor retailers in Sweden – and the 

business was on the move. This specific outdoor retailer chain did as many other outdoor 

retailers have done after them, they detected a totally new market for these kind of products 

among their own customer group in the age of 25-45 years. Being parents to small kids, living or 

buying the outdoor lifestyle, understanding and prioritizing the need for these kind of products for 

their children – the market for Nanook of Sweden was defined. End of 2005 the company had 15 

retailers, today they supply 125 outdoor and children fashion stores both in Sweden and 

Norway. 2007 they were TEST WINNER in the biggest baby & childrenmagazine in both 

Sweden and Norway. 

INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION & BRAND CHANGE 

The company Nordic KidsWear AB became a full member of Scandinavian Outdoor Group 2009 

and the work of taking the brand outside Scandinavia is a big challenge and opportunity for the 

company starting now. Nordic KidsWear AB have signed an agreement with Scandic Outdoor 

GmbH for the German, Austrian and Swiss market. In addition to that they are also entering into 

the Danish and Benelux market. When taking the decision to bring the brand to the international 

market, it came as a rather natural decision and step forward for the company to make the 

brand evenmore Scandinavian and Swedish, to more clearly emphazise its roots and origin. 

This is the reason for re-branding the name NANOOK into the Swedish meaning: ISBJÖRN. 

This will be made for the international market AW2009 and for the Swedish Market in AW2010. 

We are going international, by turning even more Scandinavian !

GESCHICHTE & HINTERGRUND 

Die Nordic KidsWear AB wurde im Jahr 2005 von den beiden jungen Müttern Maria Forsberg und 

Camilla Pettersson gegründet. Um ihren Outdoor-Lifestyle auch in Zukunft leben zu können, begaben 

sie sich auf die Suche nach passender Outdoor-Bekleidung für ihre Kleinen - ohne Erfolg. Die Idee für 

die Marke „Nanook of Sweden“ war geboren. Nanoq bedeutet Polarbär auf Grönländisch. Der Bär ist 

ein häufig anzutreffendes Logo bei Kinderbekleidung, und da die konkrete Geschäftsidee darin 

bestand, Kleidung für härtere Bedingungen und kälteres Klima zu entwickeln, wählten Maria und 

Camilla den Polarbären für ihr Logo. Die erste Kollektion umfasste die Altersgruppen von 0-3 Jahren 

und konzentrierte sich hauptsächlich auf unmittelbar am Körper getragene Wäsche und Fleece- 

Bekleidung. Die Kollektion wurde aber rasch auf die Altergruppen von 0-8 Jahren erweitert und 

beinhaltet heute alle Lagen um kleine Babys und Kinder für den Outdoor-Einsatz auszurüsten. 

GESCHÄFTSIDEE & PHILOSOPHIE 

Die Idee von Maria und Camilla war, neue Sichtweisen zu eröffnen, wenn es darum geht, Kinder für 

den Outdoor-Einsatz einzukleiden. Ein Kind ist von Natur aus ein geborener Multisportler. Sie lieben 

es draußen in der Natur zu sein. Aber ohne die richtige Kleidung kann dieses Vergnügen schnell 

wieder verschwinden und vielleicht nie wiederkehren - auch nicht im Erwachsenenalter. Da Kinder im 

Freien sehr aktiv sind und im Vergleich zu Erwachsenen leichter schwitzen und schneller frieren, 

benötigen besonders sie eine atmungsaktive und 100 % wasser- und winddichte Kleidung. Durch eine 

Kollektion die genau das bietet und mit nachhaltigen technischen Materialien von höchster Qualität 

sowie ÖKO-Tex-lizensierten und recycelten Fasern kombiniert, wird das Konzept von Qualität und 

Nachhaltigkeit auf ein neues Level gehoben. Die Bekleidung erwies sich in der Anwendung durch 

Kinder als leicht, weich und flexibel. Eltern behinderter Kinder riefen an und freuten sich, dass sie nun 

endlich Kleidung für Ihre Kinder gefunden hatten, in der sie sich im Freien ungestört bewegen konnten! 

Eltern wollen natürlich überzeugt sein, dass ihre Kinder warm, trocken und komfortabel gekleidet sind. 

Das ist beispielsweise der Schlüssel um in einer Kindertagesstätte oder einem Waldkindergarten im 

Freien sein zu können. Wissenschaft und Forschung belegen, wie wichtig es für die Gesundheit der 

Kinder ist, im Freien zu sein. Die Etablierung wahrer Funktionalität und Produktnachhaltigkeit auf dem 

Kinderbekleidungsmarkt ist einer der Erfolgsfaktoren für Isbjörn of Sweden. 

ERFOLGSGESCHICHTE in SWEDEN & NORWEGEN 

Die Kollektion von Isbjörn of Sweden wurde von einem der größten Outdoor-Händler in Schweden 

entdeckt - das Geschäft nahm Fahrt auf. Diese Einzelhandelskette tat, was nach ihr viele Outdoor- 

Händler getan haben: Sie entdeckte einen völlig neuen Markt für diese Art von Produkten unter ihren 

Kunden in der Altersklasse von 25-45 Jahren. Der Markt für Isbjörn of Sweden definierte sich über 

Eltern junger Kinder, die den Wert und die Notwendigkeit solcher Kleidung für ihre eigenen Kinder 

erkannten. Ende 2005 bediente das Unternehmen 15 Händler, heute sind es 125 Händler in den 

Bereichen Outdoor und Kindermode in Schweden und Norwegen. Im Jahr 2007 wurde das 

Unternehmen TESTSIEGER im größten Baby- und Kindermagazin in Schweden und Norwegen. 

INTERNATIONALE EXPANSION und NEUER MARKENNAME 

Das Unternehmen Nordic KidsWear AB wurde 2009 Vollmitglied der Scandinavien Outdoor Group. Mit 

dem Ziel die Marke auch außerhalb Skandinaviens zu etablieren, eröffnen sich nun neue 

Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten für das Unternehmen. Im Herbst 2008 unterzeichnete Nordic 

KidsWear AB einen Vertrag mit der Scandic Outdoor GmbH für die Märkte in Deutschland, Österreich 

und der Schweiz. Zusätzlich werden die Märkte in Dänemark und Benelux erschlossen. Mit dem 

Entschluss die Marke auf einem internationalen Markt einzuführen folgte der im Grunde konsequente 

Schritt, auch den skandinavischen Ursprung der Marke zu unterstreichen. Vor diesem Hintergrund 

wurde der Name NANOOK in seine schwedische Bedeutung übersetzt: ISBJÖRN. Dieser Schritt wird 

auf dem internationalen Markt im Herbst/Winter 2009 und auf dem schwedischen Markt im 

Herbst/Winter 2010 vollzogen.

MICRO FLEECE – leicht, superweich & allround“ aus 50 % recyceltem Garn! 

MICRO FLEECE 

Diese Kleidungsstücke sind die absoluten Favoriten 

der Kinder – dünne, geschmeidige, unglaublich weiche 

und angenehme Materialien in allen Passformen. Diese 

„Lieblingsstücke“ finden das ganze Jahr über 

Verwendung: Als Oberbekleidung in den warmen 

Jahreszeiten und als Unterbekleidung in den kälteren. 

Sie verfügen über weiche Bündchen, um dem Kind das 

An- und Ausziehen zu erleichtern und sicherzustellen, 

dass die Kleidung nicht verrutscht. Alle Modelle 

besitzen einen unterlegtem Reißverschluss mit 

Kinnschutz. Die kleinsten Größen haben statt des 

Kragens eine Kapuze. 

Das von uns verwendete Fleece wird von Polartec 

hergestellt und ist zu 50 % recycelt. In unseren Augen 

ein wichtiges Merkmal, von dem wir hoffen, das es 

künftig alle unsere Kleidungsstücke auszeichnet. 

POLARTEC® MICRO® ist ein dünnes Fleece-Material, 

das auf beiden Seiten eine Luftschicht bindet und so die 

Köperwärme hält. Das Fleece ventiliert sehr gut. Es 

transportiert Feuchtigkeit ausgezeichnet ab und absorbiert 

weniger als 1 % seines eigenen Gewichts (159 g/m 2 ). 

GreenLine-Fleece ist zu über 50 % aus recycelten Fasern 

hergestellt. Das Material ist zertifiziert nach Öko-Tex100. 

POLARTEC® MICRO® is a thin fleece material that holds 

a layer of insulating air on both sides of the textile that 

captures the body heat. The fleece ventilates and 

evacuates moist very well and absorbes less than 1% of 

its own wight (159 g/m2). GreenLine fleece from Polartec 

is made out of >50% re-cycled fibers. The material is 

certified according to ÖKO-Tex100 standard. 

These garments is an absolute favourite among the 

kids. Light, comfortable, extremely soft and delightful is 

every aspect. Perfect allround garment - as a middle 

layer during colder seasons and as an outer layer in 

summer. Soft but steady cuffs in the sleeve and leg 

endings to secure a perfect fit. All garments has a 

protective flap along the whole zipper. The smallest 

size of the overall, jacket and the vest has got a hood 

instead of a collar. 

We are using fleece with 50% re-cycled fibers from 

Polartec®. This is an important standpoint from our 

side and the aim for the entire collection in the future.

Eine schicke und funktionelle Jacke aus Power Stretch, die je 

nach Wetter und Aktivität als Oberbekleidung oder wärmende 

Unterziehjacke dient. Die äußere Oberfläche ist verschleißfest, 

wind- und wasserabweisend, das weiche Innenmaterial gebürstet – 

für ein kuscheliges Tragegefühl! Die Jacke ist schwarz, mit farblich 

abgesetzten Details wie dem vorderen Reißverschluss oder dem 

Kapuzen-Fleece. Die Kapuze selbst ist mit Druckknöpfen befestigt

A really nice looking and functional jacket in PowerStretch 

material, useful as reinforcement as well as outer layer for 

training or just as a comfortable garment for the child. The jacket 

has a durable and wind- and waterrepellant surface and a brushed 

cosy inside. The jacket is black with colourful details as the 

frontzipper and lining in the hood, which by the way is removable of 

course. Small pocket on the sleeve and a belly pocket. The entire 

jacket is made with flatlock for ultimate comfort.

körpernahe Schnitt wird in zwei tollen Farbenkombinationen 

angeboten. Die Kapuze ist mit Druckknöpfen befestigt und

The Wind Pro Jacket from ISBJÖRN of Sweden® is made of 

Polartec® WindPro with Hardface Technology and 50% recycled 

fibers. A true spring and summer favourite for the outdoor child 

in two lovely colourcombinations, that performs both as 

outerwear and insulation. The super stretchy material is 4 times 

as windresistant as Classic fleece, but still with an excellent 

degree of breathability. The hardface technology provides 

durability and a leight water repellant effect. A short, slim fit with 

thumpgrip, a cool chestpocket, comfortable belly pocket and a 

removable hood for safety reason, makes the jacket complete.

Super leicht und trotzdem robust und mit 87gr/m2 ein 

wirkliches Fliegengewicht in zwei erfrischenden Farben 

- Raspberry und Lime - kombiniert mit dem Packmaß 

einer Orange. So passt diese dünne Jacke in jedes 

Schul- oder Trekkinggepäck des Kindes. Das Material 

ist 100 % wind- und wasserdicht sowie atmungsaktiv 

und bietet so einen hohen Tragekomfort. Die Nähte sind 

zu 100 % getaped. 

Details: Die Kapuze ist abnehmbar und die großen 

gedruckten Reflektoren an den Ärmeln und am Rücken 

sorgen für Sicherheit. Die Jacke verfügt über einen 

unterlegten Reißverschluss mit Kinnschutz und eine 

Brusttasche mit wasserabweisendem Reißverschluss

when the rain might come. The material is 100% windand 

waterproof with good breathability. All for comfort 

during days with both sun, wind and possible rain. The 

garment is 100% seam sealed. 

Details: The jacket has front zipper with front flap and 

protection piece for the chin, one waterproof chest 

pocket, removable hood with garage at the front. The 

jacket has printed reflexes on sleeves and at the back 

of the jacket. Elastic in the hem of the jacket and sleeve 

endings. The garment can be washed in 40°gentle 

cycle.

HARD SHELL JACKET 

Unsere Hardshell-Jacke aus Entrant-V ist eine 

souveräne Allround-Kleidung, die sich ganzjährig für 

alle Aktivitäten eignet. Die Jacke kann als Wind- und 

Regenjacke in Frühling, Herbst und Sommer sowie 

beim aktiven Spielen im Winter verwendet werden. 

Die Nähte der Jacke sind zu 100 % getaped. 

Die Jacke ist mit Netz gefüttert, hat vorgeformte Ärmel, 

Justiermöglichkeiten an Armbündchen und Hüfte, 

Reißverschluss mit Kinnschutz und zwei Taschen mit 

wasserabweisendem Reißverschluss. Der Kragen ist 

hinten erhöht und mit weichem Fleece gefüttert, die 

Kapuze ist abnehmbar und die großen, gedruckten 

Reflektoren an den Ärmeln und am Rücken sorgen für 

Sicherheit. 

EntrantV ist ein Material mit microporöser Beschichtung, 

das eine Wasserdichtigkeit von 10.000 mm garantiert und 

dazu über eine sehr gute Atmungsaktivität verfügt (10.000 

gr/m 2 /24 h). Das Material ist nach Öko-Tex100 zertifiziert.

Die Kleidung kann bei 40 Grad gewaschen und bei 

niedriger Temperatur im Trockner getrocknet werden.

chin, two waterproof pockets, collar lined with soft 

fleece, removable hood with garage at the front. The 

jacket has printed reflexes on sleeves and at the back 

of the jacket. 

The garment can be washed in 40°gentle cycle and 

tumble dried on low heat, which enables the use of 

only one pair of set for the child.

adjustable waist solution, front zipper with front falp and 

soft protection piece for the chin, two WP chest pockets 

and one WP sleeve pocket. The collar is lined with soft 

tricot, the hood is removable and adjustable in the back 

attached in a “garage “ at the front. The jacket has 

printed reflexes on sleeves and at the back of the 

jacket.

Unsere Hardshell-Hose aus Entrant-V ist eine 

ausgezeichnete Allround-Hose für den ganzjährigen 

Einsatz. Die Hose kann als Wind-, Regen- oder 

Segelhose verwendet werden. Die Nähte der Hose 

sind zu 100 % getaped. 

Das Modell wird in zwei Varianten angeboten: Die 

kleinen Größen bis 92 cl sind auf der Beininnenseite 

nahtlos. Sie verfügen über eine hohe Taille mit 

Gummizug, einen seitlichen Reißverschluss der das 

An- und Ausziehen erleichtert sowie einstellbare 

Hosenträger und Gummibündchen an den 

Beinabschlüssen. 

Das größere Modell ist wie eine Hardshell-Hose für 

Erwachsene designt. Sie verfügt über vorgeformte 

Beine und einen weiten Beinabschluss mit 

Reißverschluss am Beinende. Beide Modelle verfügen 

über große, aufgedruckte Reflektoren vorne und hinten.

The pant is made in two different models, the 

smaller one up to 92 cl has zipper in the side, 

adjustable straps and elastic in leg endings. The bigger 

model is designed as an adult shellpant, with forbent 

legs, semistraight legs, zipper at the leg endings and 

removable braces. The pant has printed reflexes on 

front and back.

Unsere Hardshell-Jacke aus Dermizax-EV ist eine 

richtige „Expeditionsjacke“ im Miniformat. Mit ihren 

ausgezeichneten Eigenschaften in Bezug auf 

Wasserdichtigkeit und Atmungsaktivität passt sie zu 

jeder Wetterlage, Aktivität und Jahreszeit. Die Jacke 

kann als Wind-, Regen und Segeljacke im Frühling, 

Herbst oder Sommer verwendet werden. Bei 

entsprechender Unterbekleidung kann sie auch im 

Winter zum Einsatz kommen. Das universelle 

Kleidungsstück ist zu 100 % getaped.

Dermizax-EV verfügt über eine 100 % wind- und 

wasserdichte Membran mit hervorragender 

Atmungsaktivität, die dafür sorgt, dass Kondensflüssigkeit 

aus der Kleidung transportiert wird und das Kind so warm 

und trocken bleibt. Die Atmungsaktivität der Membran wird 

nicht durch Waschmittel, Salz oder andere Ablagerungen 

beeinträchtigt. Dadurch eignet sich das Material 

ausgezeichnet für Kinderbekleidung, die häufig 

gewaschen werden muss. Es ist nach Öko-Tex100 

zertifiziert.

from Toray. Dermizax-EV membrane is a 100% wind- and 

waterproof membrane that has got an excellent breathing 

ability and that evacuates the condensations which ensures 

that the child is kept dry. Dermizax-EV is a poreless 

membrane which will not become blocked by residual 

washing agents, dirt or salt crystals, that is why this material 

is ideal to make childrens wear of as they often gets dirty, 

needs repeatatitive washing and drying. Certified according 

to ÖKO-Tex100 Class 1.

version with an oustanding performance regarding
