Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice-Chancellor, University of Karachi presents a shield<br />

by Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice<br />

Chancellor, University of Karachi while <strong>in</strong>augurat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Multidiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary International Conference on<br />

“<strong>Qualitative</strong> <strong>Research</strong> <strong>in</strong> Develop<strong>in</strong>g Countries:<br />

Opportunities and Challenges” held under the<br />

auspices of Faculty of Arts, University of Karachi from<br />

November 3-4, 2006.<br />

Prof. Siddiqui thanked the local and foreign scholars,<br />

researchers and other guests for shar<strong>in</strong>g their<br />

knowledge and experience that are likely to stimulate<br />

researchers and academicians' views <strong>in</strong> various fields<br />

of social sciences.<br />

important, to highlight the<br />

opportunities for ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong>-depth understand<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

issues which we cannot get<br />

through the use of<br />

quantitative methods<br />

He appreciated the<br />

thought-provok<strong>in</strong>g<br />

presentation by Dr. Adrian<br />

Holiday, the keynote speaker from Christchurch<br />

University, UK and urged upon researchers to face<br />

realities and meet the challenges of the modern<br />

times.<br />

Dr. Pirzada <strong>in</strong>vited the researchers of the develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

countries to address various issues concern<strong>in</strong>g<br />

qualitative research.<br />

He acknowledged the collaboration of the <strong>Higher</strong><br />

<strong>Education</strong> Commission and applauded Dr.<br />

Shamsudd<strong>in</strong>, Dean of the Faculty of Arts for hold<strong>in</strong>g<br />

such an event and expressed hope that these efforts<br />

would cont<strong>in</strong>ue <strong>in</strong> the future on a regular basis so<br />

that the outcome of qualitative research was put to<br />

human advantage <strong>in</strong> the develop<strong>in</strong>g countries.<br />

“In order to meet the challenges of the 21 century,<br />

scholars and researchers of the develop<strong>in</strong>g countries<br />

must work hand <strong>in</strong> hand with other nations of the<br />

world”, Dr. Pirzada stressed.<br />

He said that this Conference had come as a breath of<br />

fresh air. “This Conference is significant for two<br />

Pro Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi related the<br />

need of qualitative research essential for the sake of<br />
